Tow Car Tail Lights

Still in the wiring mode of our new Jeep Wrangler. Found another problem. We use a Roadmaster Brite Lite 3 wire to 2 wire converter in the Motor Home When checking it out found that I had left and right turn and left brake not right brake. Another thing I don't think I ever checked is do the turn signal lights flash when the brake is on. Now it really doesn't. Talked to Roadmaster and they say there is an internal switch that allows the turn signals to flash. Will replace the converter. Found several a lot less expensive than Roadmaster but no data and no one seems to know how they work. I think the low cost Curt (sp) only good for about 2 amps. Also found a MMEPL500R. No specs. Prob just go with the Roadmaster, know it worked and will assume that Roadmaster gave me the correct info. Any additional info appreciated.

Using separate bulbs in tail light, 2357's. Connecting high current filament to turn/brake and the low power to the running lights.

My coach is a 2006 Allure but I was told I did not need the converter. Even though there is a separate bulb for the turn signal and the brake light the signal is coverted in the coach wiring to act as if there is only one bulb. They call this a combined system as apposed to separate system. I am also wiring so I guess I will find out if this is all true. I do know that if I press on the brakes there is power to both the brake light and the turn signal at the coach plug. Roadmasters web site has wiring diagrams for the various situations.

Setting up Wrangler for towing complete. Installed the Blue Ox base plate, no problem. Had 2 bulb sockets (previously from Blue Ox). Bought some 4 wire #16 cable (round not flat) ran it through the frame so didn't need to go through the fire wall. Drilled 1" hole in the tail light assemble and inserted socket. Used LED's smaller and less power. Connected the separate bulb assembly with a 4 wire trailer plug and socket so that I could still remove the tail light assembly without removing the socket from the light assembly.

The 3 wire to 2 wire converter in the MH was bad. Replaced it with the same model Brite Lite from Roadmaster.. Less expensive ones out there but I know this model worked. There is a switch in the Brite Lite that allows the turn signals to work when the brakes are applied.

Only one more thing to do, put a license plate holder on front bumper, bought it in AZ Licensing in TX, requires front plate. Jeep doesn't sell one, told me to screw it directly to bumper, don't like that idea, working on a solution.

A little tip for future connections to toad is to install the plugs behind the license plate and install a spring loaded license plate bracket (on order) When your unhooked crude doesn't fill your connectors up! Just a thought, did this on my '15 GC Limited, should works great!
