Air Filter #

Yahoo Message Number: 107870
Just got home on Friday with the new to us 2002 Magna #6089. I want to do full service on the 505 Cat and Allison as the coach sat for a period of time. I need the air filter # and trans filter #. What fluids are you all running in your transmission now. I have no idea what is in mine presently. I also need front hub seal numbers as one is seeping. Also one more question-it needs an AC compressor or at least a new clutch. Does anyone have any numbers for it. Thanks in advance.

Rick

You might find all the info you need on previous service records, build specs, should be in the bus or with old owner.

If your Cat is a C-13, as mine is, the numbers I use are any one of the following:
Wix 46623;
Baldwin PA2839;
Hastings AF2125;
Napa 6623,
FRAM CA7113;
Fleetguard AF2566;
Luberfiner LAF1839.

You can check Amazon for filter prices, pictures, dimensions, etc.

For the Allison, either Transynd or Delvac extended life synthetic fluid.

You might want to call the Cat hotline and get the specifics on your engine. Here is the number. (877) 777-3126. They can tell you if it's a C12 or C13, what the actual HP was at the factory and all the parts numbers. Of course you'll need you engine number which is located on the sticker with all the other coach information.

Congrats on your new coach.

I took down the numbers of all the regular filters or took pictures of them. The air filter I had to remove to get the part number. As for the transmission you need to write your serial number down and take it to a good parts store or truck parts store. They will look up the model and give you a filter kit and oil. The Allison uses transynd or another synthetic version 6 fluid that is ok for Allison. Do your research on this.

Congrats on the new to you coach!

You're on the right mind set changing ALL the fluids.

First my disclaimer, I recommend you take the coach to a qualified shop for this work that has either a pit or lift to get under the coach properly and the knowledge to perform the work correctly. That being said, let's see if I can help you out some!

Air Filter "" pull it off the coach, probably a Donaldson and probably a sealed unit (not just the filter media but also the canister as a complete unit) take it with you to size it up correctly and get the correct one. Note: make sure the restrictor gauge is working correctly and if not replace it as well. IF it's working correctly and it's not to the bottom then no need to replace the filter. You don't want to over change air filter on diesel engines.

Trans "" prior to '06 Allison used Dex III which at that time said to change once a year or "x" miles (for those still running Dex in a coach I say every 2-3 years) Currently and since 06' Allison uses Transynd which is also known as TES-295 full synthetic. Currently others besides Castrol make TES-295, Castrol makes the transynd. Allison states that TES-295 is good for 100k miles with filter changes every 30k or so. As for the filters it's either the long or short version, they come in a 2 pack. We use fleetguard brand. But before you dump it out I would do a couple things first, I would look around the engine compartment and see if there's a sticker or tag that says it's TES-295 or Transynd. Next I would pull the dip stick and run the fluid across a clean white paper towel and see if there's any bronze color to it, blood red it typically dex and red with a bronze tint is typically TES-295 transynd. Lastly I would warm the trans up to minimum 160 degrees and at the keypad (where you shift gears) check the fluid level. Now if you still decide to change you've gotten yourself familiar with how to check level, you also know if the current level is correct so when you drain out "x" amount from pulling the filters out and pulling the drain plug you can put that amount back in plus the amount you figure for the converter, cooler & lines. You'll need to pull the return line off and start the motor to pump that amount out. Do your research and get educated on this to do it right. I just do it automatic so I've probably forgotten something here...

A/C "" if the a/c is flat and the compressor doesn't sound and/or feel right and your just going to change it, pull it along with the expansion valve and the drier. Take them with you to your local A/C parts supplier and they should have all those parts in stock once they look at them. All standard automotive A/C parts. Flush the lines, install new parts, vacuum & charge. Most diesel pushers I start with 2lbs and add until low side is close to 30 and temp split at dash is 30ish, of course the more spilt the better!

Good luck!

If you are into doing some of your own maintenance a K&N re-usable filter is an option.
