There is one good fix...

Wear dark sunglasses and never look at the sides of the coach from closer than 10'.

Everything I've seen written on it suggests that there is no fix other than replacing the siding (10-40k). Those that sanded and repainted had them reoccur. Something to do with the fiberglass defect causing off gassing and subsequent checking. I've also read that it is merely cosmetic and that most live with the imperfection.

Some of my busing friends refer to this as a 50/60 paint job, From fifty ft away and at sixty miles an hour, who notices. But I will say if the checking that you speak off is on the stuff they put on the front of these coaches, a good RV body man can get that stuff off. Don't know how but I know it can be done!!!

If/when you're ready to repaint a couple of options:

Mike's Paint and Body in Bremen, IN (we had some work done there and he was more reasonable than others where we received quotes and we were happy with the results). We stayed in a nearby Comfort Suites while it was being done as we are full timers. Last I heard the full paint was $12,000-$15,000. We met a Country Coach owner that had their coach done at Mike's a few years ago and it looked awesome. Sorry can't find their names. Maybe they are on this forum??

Precision Painting in Bremen, IN - more pricey than Mike's. Top quality work! up to $25,000.

There are people out there that will do it for Much less too. We got lucky and found someone in Tampa, Florida to do ours. It took 8 days to sand and prep and 2 days to do the clear coat.. The Coach looks brand new. He did an amazing Job for 8,000. He came to our home in Jacksonville and did the work. Our clear coat was peeling on both sides and the back. Our other two estimates were 18,000 and 22, 000. Sherwin Williams auto body paint makes a clear coat that works. It's about $200.00 a gallon.

I've read here too however that it's not the paint, it's the fiberglass. Thanks in advance for any help understanding.

We were thinking of designing decorate graphics in some type of vinyl and just cover the bad areas. Has anyone done that?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the cracks are in the resin and when it seperates it casues the paint to check or crack.

Usually only in the darker colors from the heat.

Paint?$&@ I've been a chemist in the paint industry for 40 years. You a pretty common problem which there is no good solution other than reprinting. Once the polymer has aged, stretched an final cracked there's no way to repair the coating. Dark colors are the first to go, they absorb more uv, heat more quickly. Those of us with older coaches have another problem, peeling paint. That cream color is just fiberglass with a clear coat. CC didn't use a pigmented coating, just clear. UV damages the resin in the fiberglass and the clear peels off. Real easy to get off with a razor blade, comes off in sheets. SO, sand it down an a fresh pint job.

I was told that repainting the motorhome is a waste of time. The problem is in the fiberglass and not the paint.
The new paint will just check again once subjected to enough heat.
