Hello CC owners,

Just picked up a 2005 Intrigue from a fellow member. We just drove it home from AZ. Unbelievable ride. Wow. So smooth. A little tough through the high winds in the Palm Springs pass, but we made it home 350 miles later.
Beth and I started our RV adventure in a 1978 Prowler in 1999. We have owned truck campers, fifth wheels, travel trailers and now a class A. First time driving one today.
The manual and systems on this coach is a little overwhelming. The PO did an excellent job maintaining it and set me up right. Came complete with a spreadsheet with all part # and maintenance records, etc. we spent all day Friday and Saturday with them absorbing as much as we could.
I'm looking forward to joining the conversation. We use this same type of format for our SoCal early bronco obsession and it works great.
Todd.

Congrats on an awesome rig. We have an older one, 2000 Allure and we love it. The ride, the quality are all awesome. I like the fact that it is older and has all of the basic systems that are easily serviceable by me for the most part. Good luck on your purchase and wishing you lots of awesome adventures.

You didn't say whether you had a 40 ft with 4 slides or a 42 with 3 slides. T hey are both great coaches and have some nice updates while keeping the great fundamentals of the earlier 03 and 04 sisters. If you have the CAT engine you have a real power house. You have updated electronics, but also have some of the older manual systems, that have very few issues. I guess the solid one piece window is nice until it has to be replaced. And watch out for radiator leaks and charge air cooler leaks unless that have been already replaced. If you have a ISL 400 engine you'll e able to put 315 tires on your coach if you wish . The coaches with a the big cats have a different rear end axle assemblies and have to keep the 12 R's in the rear duals and possibly the tag. I imagine you will really enjoy the 3 airs and the slide out genset. We had Davis cabinets do some upgrades to our cabinetry inspired by your coach, etc. Hope you get another 10 years of enjoyment out of the coach. Won't be long and we will be celebrating our 13th anniversary in our 04 coach. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731

Hi - the tires are the Mich XZA2. 315 80R22.5. Dot date is sept 2014. It has the ISL 400. Quad Slide. Tag axle. The radiator was replaced sometime back at Colton Truck. 2 A/C with the Onan 8000. I do need to review the service on the CAC. PO also installed the new HD directv dish amongst other nice custom features. Added a desk. Upgraded all furniture. Added cabinets. Added door where it was a sealed cabinet. Etc...The recalled refrig was also fixed. Its also the Kona version paint and interior scheme. All tommy bahama style.

We are headed to San Diego in a couple weeks for our first camping mission.

Todd, sounds much like our coach, even the Michelin 315s. What pressure are you running on the front? Ours aged out just short of 6 years. Replaced them last month.

115 up front is good, IMHO too high in the rear. The old tables that came with your coach were back in the day when manufactures did a CYA and recommended excessively high pressures.

You should get a 6 point weighing and review the Michelin tire pressure/weight table for your tires to determine minimums, and add 10 PSI as a safety measure.

My coach weight should be close to yours . . . 115F, 95D, 85T is what I've run for years.

Also keep in mind that 315s can't carry their full rated load if they're mounted on 8 1/2 inch-wide wheels, which is likely if the coach was originally equipped with 12Rs.

Thanks for that advice. Any idea why someone would use a different size tire? What is the advantage?

The good news is we aren't full timers, so we will never get close to GVWR. I will have to figure this one out.

Hard to figure why 315s were put on by CCC. I assume the 295 couldn't carry the front end load. I see a lot of similar coaches using 315.

The 12R on the front can approach its weight rating with the 42' chassis. So if your fuel tank is full, and you fill the first two bays with heavy items, and the pilot and co-pilot are of big stature, weight might be an issue. That said I went with 315's for an economic reason at the time and as XZ2 and XZE were not available for 3 to 4 weeks. I needed to head home. So I have 315's all around. If however you have the big CAT C-12 or 13 the rear axles and tags are different to handle the added weight I guess and the different axle ratio. So Like the Magnas of the same time period only 12Rs will work on the duals due to clearance issues. I was surprised the 315's would fit on my Ovation. I rotate my tires every two years and with the wear markers on the Continental tires I had them swapped when I replaced the shocks. Then low and behold one was out of round. So I moved tires around again and placed two new XZA2 on the front. They do ride smoother than the Continentals with a touch less noise, but are just as sensitive to cracks in the pavement as the Continentals. The smoothest tire I ever had at any time was the XZ2 12R highway tire, that is not longer available. XZE are a good choice, too. But the XZ2 would just float over the seams in the pavement. I purchased the Michelins on the FMCA deal at $600,00 a piece from Rayburn tires in Tucson. Wish it had been Oregon, no sales tax. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731 42' Ovation.

2007 Intrigue is a totally different breed of cat compared to 03,04, and 05 the last of the Classic Intrigues. The 06, 07, etc are based on the Magna except for one issue. The early updated Intrigues came with " he same IFS as the 05 and earlier models. Meaning on the new heavier models could run out of storage capacity real fast. Where my 04 Intrigue has a carrying capacity close to 9500 lbs, the 45' 06 models with all tile floors, and loaded with extras, could only carry about 1900 to 2800 lbs. There fore CC started changing front ends to gain another 1600 to 2000 lbs, and started fitting Intrigues then built on the same line as the Magnas with larger tires, wheels and all disc brakes. If you will look at Damon Rapozo'z site history of CC I think you'll find information about upgrades etc etc. By 08 nearly all the coaches were running 315's in the front, with a scattered amount of 365's, for the really Big Coaches. Diffrent coaches, different lengths, different weights, different wheel sizes - will all make a difference on the tire options, and appropriate PSI.

I have the 40' Allure with ISL, and 8.25" rims. I looked at going to 315/80 22.5 on the steers. But after seeing that they were slight derated for the 8.25", decided to go with the 295/80 22.5 instead of the 12R's. Primary reason was the 295/80 brought XZA2's into the mix for me. I had been running the last 6-7 years on XZE*'s 12R's - that I felt were a very safe and robust tire. I did lose two to pot holes in California last year during the Michelin shortage o 2015. Ended up with 2 BF Goodrich ST230's, that being new, I place on my steers. They rod a bit softer then the thick/stiff side walls of the XZE*'s. When I went shopping to replace the other 6 tires before going you on this years travels, as mentioned, I went with the XZA2's in 295/80. Put the 12R BF Goodrich ST230's on the Tag. IMO, the XZA2's ride even better on the steers then the ST230's. So far, very pleased.

I'll probably weigh a few thousand pounds less then other coaches mentioned in this thread, and my four corner weights has me safely running 100 PSI in the Steers, and 90 in the Drive and Tag - though for even more contingency, I usually run 105 PSI Steers, and 95 Drive and Tag.

I came very close to buying some used 9" rims for the Steers, to go with the 315/80 and not having to derate them, and also not have them running a bit fatter as they would on 8.25's. But looking at my coaches weight, the 295/80 were more then robust enough to cover my loads, with ease...

Just info sharing with my post, in case someone else is research tire options, especially if they want to shift from the 12R's to open up other options as far as tire models.

Travel safe, have fun, and best to all,

Smitty

Hello everyone, it's great that this group is available for CC owners. I just purchased a very nice 1995 CC Affinity 40' with 350 Cat, Neway rear suspension 82k miles, the build quality of this coach is amazing.

I'm looking forward to learning everything I can and getting to know you all
