RVComfort.ZC Thermostat - No Zone 2 or 3

Yahoo Message Number: 108160
Last night when I was setting the heat for the cold night the thermostat would not show me Zone 2 or 3. This was not the "00" problem. It just would not show Zone 2 or 3. I pulled the thermostat fuse for a couple of minutes and when I replaced it all worked fine. Today when we arrived at our new location all zones worked fine. About two hours later I noticed that the rear air (Zone 3) was not cooling. I checked the thermostat and I could not get it to go to zone 2 or 3. It works fine on Zone 1. I pulled the thermostat fuse for about 10 minutes and when I plug it back in it still won't show Zone 2 or 3. I checked the LED's on the Zone 2 and 3 air conditioners and they are blinking the zone number which according to the thermostat manual means the thermostat is not communicating with the upper control boards. Our serial number is 8330B331* or 8330B335* circa 2004.

Any thoughts?

My next step would seem to be to order a new thermostat unless someone has a super tip on how to fix this.

We don't have 3 AC's or the same thermostat so don't know if this makes a difference.
A technician told us recently that in hot and humid weather, put the fan mode on "high" and put both AC's on the same fan mode "high" . He said that in hot humid weather the AC can freeze and it will shut down that AC. Since we have been following his recommendations we have not had a problem with our AC's. He also checked the phone cord connections at each AC, unplugged them and plugged them back in.

Also Found this on another forum and I remembered someone posting on the CC forum that RF frequency from flourescent lights or other things can interfere with the thermostat. the old post:

Not sure you have the same issue, but the common problem many of us had with the RV Comfort Control.zc thermostat from that era was its digital display would lock up with 00 showing.
That would shut down the units and prevent any change or restart with the controls until it was reset.
Resetting is accomplished by temporarily pulling the 12 vdc fuse for the thermostat (or shutting down the complete 12 vdc source temporarily).
The cause of the 00 locked up condition according to the manufacturer was RFI (radio frequency interference) effecting their electronic circuit board. They went through several design revisions to the circuit board behind your thermostat, before finding a solution that fixed it for most of us.
The source of the RFI causing the lock up for some was the flourescent light fixture ballast and some had success upgrading their fixtures to low RFI ballasts.
There are many other possible RFI sources in todays RV: cell charger, PC charger, etc.
Mine would go into lock up 00 state in the middle of the night with no lights turned on, and the problem went away completely only after I had a newer vintage circuit board installed.

Ok, I followed the directions in the manual for reprogramming the thermostat. All of the settings were right but just going through the process seems to have fixed the problem. We'll see how long it lasts.

I sort of remember if you have florescent ceiling lights that if a ballast goes off kilter the frequencies it radiates can interfere with the air conditioning system. I don't know if this applies in your case. It could be the connectors contacts on the control cables need to be cleaned. I believe they use standard modular telephone RJ connectors. They have gold contacts but can still become polluted and need cleaning. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731
