Xantrex Freedom 458 Cooling Fan Question

Yahoo Message Number: 108200
Okay you technical electrical Wizards: Has anyone replaced the cooling fan in their Freedom 458 inverter? Do you know what model it is and where I can get one for my 3000 watter? I am assuming it is the thermostatic fan itself that is the problem since the inverter functions perfectly other than when under a heavy charge, at which point it goes into an EO3 over heat mode temporarily. If I reduce the charge level below 40 amps, no overheat. I examined it and found that under charge load, the cooling fan is making a few slow revolutions, then stopping and so on. It appears that the fan may just have worn out after years. I assume this indicates a bad fan? Or could it be something else like a board? Is the thermostat part of the fan?

Hi Richard

Not sure if you received my reply, so here it is again. I replaced mine from a Xantrex Freedom 20D this Summer, DELTA ELECTRONICS Part # WFB1212H-R00 This is what my fan is.

Take your unit out and on the front of the fan you should see the specs and model number. Search for it on line. Shouldn't be3 hard to find, they are used in PC's as well. Make sure you have all the power disconnect first, both AC and DC.... I had to remove mine completely from the coach due to the installed location above the batteries. If was packed solid with fine dust... It took longer to clean the unit up with the vacuum than to replace the fan....Kevin

Hi Richard,

I just replaced mine, in a Xantrex Freedom 20. The fan may be a bit different but I would suggest you take a look at what your unit is using. Make sure the power is disconnected, both DC and AC....

Taking the main cover off the unit should allow you to see the fan. If you can get the details off the front of it, search on the web for the that model..

The fan's are typically the same ones that are used in PC's so you will find easily.

Mine was: Amazon.com: DELTA ELECTRONICS Part # WFB1212H-R00,: Computers & Accessories About $25 with shipping..

The change out took me about an hour or so.

What happened with mine, the inverter sets above the batteries in a somewhat enclosed compartment.

CC left holes for ventilation in multiple spots in the compartment that opened to the underside of the coach.
No filters, fan on inverter running.

Mine was packed with very fine dust. It took me longer to clean up the dust than to change out the fan....

I added filters as well and a filtered exit port to the compartment. Noticed the clean compartments on the first trip out this year....

If you were replying to my post, thanks I got one from Xantrex dealer months ago. It included the fan and new foam. Problem solved. These DC brushless fans do not last forever. So when you get the E3 overheat code and shut down this is the first thing to look at.
