water cir pump for heat in engine comp c10 cat

Hi, from oil to coolent issue. When i had the oil change last week they said the coolent pump was leaking some, we also had to add coolent somewhat more then we shood.I read on this form that some bypass this pump, when bypass does all heat work ok. There is a 2nd pump in the front run bay also.,So do we need this pump in the engine bay. Charles 2000magna 5886,back to the oil issu i am goin to drain out 8 qts and remark dip stick.

On our 2004 Allure, we bypassed the rear pump, and our OTR heater still produces plenty of heat from the front pump.

I removed the "school bus pump" from my Cummins driven rig years ago.

Some loss of dash heat but no effect to the engine.

It had left me stranded two times and so became eligible for extinction.

The second pump still gives us heated tap water during the trip.

I will correct my post. It does now take longer to get the heat up to the OTR heater, but once it's up to temperature it seems to be as warm as it was before.

But we very seldom travel with it on. One time, while both pumps were still fine and working, we traveled in temperatures in the mid 20's. (Ducking out of Yellowstone's Madison Campground, before a large multiple day snow storm was to come into the region. We ran down and out the South Entrance to get one more inspiration drive thru the Tetons, and then on out the Southwest to pick up Interstate 15. Stopped that night in the Salt Lake City area.) The OTR heater was not keeping up, so we also turned on our two zones of the furnace. Which with the HydroHot engine loop, added more heat to the coach for the AM part of the drive. Could have fired up the generator, and run the heat pumps if needed too, but with our sweatshirts on we were fine.

Reading Dean's comment, I did need to correct that it does take may three-five minutes to get things up and toasty with the single bus pump in the mix:)!

Thanks for rhe info, we have a hurricane heater will it still heat ok with only one front pump in the system, Charles 36' magna 5886 2000

The two pumps you are talking about don't work with the Hurricane system they only push coolant to the dash heater for over the road heat. So, the Hurricane furnace should still heat your coach.
