Problem Opening Cargo Door

Yahoo Message Number: 110174
I have a 2003 Intrigue and can't open one of my cargo doors. Others are also beginning to 'stick'. I think the chrome center handle mechanism is worn and won't fully retract the movable right and left pins that close behind the catches.
Anyone have a suggestion on how to open the stuck door? Anyone have suggestions on preventing future similar problems?

Use the key and make sure it isn't locked. Sometimes the electric lock will fail to unlock. Other than that, clean out the bay from the other side and climb through and see if you can remove the cover and adjust the mechanism so that it draws the latches in far enough to disengage from the tabs.

Bend a flat headed screwdriver 90 degrees and use a rag to protect paint. Should be able to pry latch back from the strike.
Worked for me.

I had the same problem with my '03/4 Intrigue and finally had to have my 12 yr old grandson crawl through from the opposite side  (after removing everything we store in there), and prying the ends while I pulled on the outside handle.

Found the nylon latches were curled on the ends from repeated closures, so I trimmed the curls, filed the ends to smooth them, and sprayed lube on the latching mechanism. 3 years later and all is working fine. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Kent.

The clearance on both sides of this particular door seemed far to tight for even a small screwdriver I ended up taking a chance and forcing it open by pulling on the handle while also pulling on the door from the bottom. Luckily, it worked without damaging the door. I then hammered the catches slightly to a more open position. The door now works fine. In also then lubricated the opener handles, latches and catches on all doors. They now all work better.

I had one door for the battery comportment that had the issue if the chassis wasn't absolutely level. One day I couldn't open it, so I set the coach with the left front low and the right rear high and the torque on the chassis allowed me to open the door. . I then leveled coach and readjusted the latches. I took the access cover off and using the appropriate allen wrench adjusted the strikers. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731. Wait till you have to reconfigure or replace a striker solenoid. A big pain.
