Windshield replacement

Yahoo Message Number: 115886
So, I have a driver side windshield to be replaced. I have a serious scratch the width of the shield at eye level. The RCMP said it would not pass an inspection. I received a first price of $ 1100.00 which was an estimate based on freight. I gave them a location of Portland Maine. A few weeks later I got my revised quote for $ 1450.00!!!

I was only able to get one quote so I think I should wait until I return to Florida in early November and maybe get treated fairly. Looking for suggestions who to deal with there??

If you are a FL resident and your coach is registered in FL, your insurance has to pay the replacement cost. It is a FL law. We just had ours replaced at the cost of 3k and not one penny out of pocket.

Be what God wants you to be, so you can have what God wants you to have.

Guy with a sailboat backed his mast through our windshield last year. Total cost to Ins co was around $1800, and windshield came out of Oregon. Took 3 guys to install it, and all were needed.

I just replaced my passenger side windshield and Granite State Glass worked with Duncan Glass to do an excellent job in New Hampshire. My Progressive insurance covered the work, so I don't have any figures to share. Hope you get the estimate you can trust. Safe travels.

Are you a Florida resident, if yes it should cost you more than $50 with your insurance. IF no, this might still be covered under your insurance less your deductible.

Sincerely

P.S. There are just a few people I would trust with this installation. Also would not recommend doing the replacement in the field. Order a new seal as it most likely will be damaged (sun damage)

Michael, this is quite a picture to see in my mind's eye. Wow. Were any of you in your coach when this happened? Wow.

Best to you,

We used RV Glass Solutions https://www.rvglassexperts.com/ They are nationwide with several distribution centers. They have shops that they work with. We used Alliance Coach in Wildwood FL. They replaced half of our windshield. Our insurance covered the entire thing. RV Glass Solutions worked with our insurance carrier and with Alliance Coach. Great company. If you are a Florida resident and carry insurance, you should not have to pay for the glass. Not sure about a new seal. RV Glass Solutions 888-777-6778.

No, we were not in the coach. The coach is parked in a Marina that is mixed RVs and good sized sailboats on trailers. The sailboat owner (Silicon Valley exec) was backing his boat trailer and simply misjudged the mast overhang off the back. He immediately told the Harbor Master and contacted me. It happen a few days before we were departing for an 8 week trip, and took 7 weeks to get the glass located and find and schedule an installer who could do it in the Marina.

We had the same thing happen years ago to our Beaver, but that one we could drive and the whole process took about 3 weeks. Unlikely to happen again as the city council has slated the Marina for shore front condos, a disappointment for us as we can walk to the coach from home in about 10 minutes now.

We live on an island in San Francisco Bay, and it should be renamed New Manhattan. Growth here is swift and accelerating.

And we still love the place!

Now that island in San Francisco Bay wouldn't have a ZIP code of 94501, would it? Who on Earth came to the Marina to install the replacement windshield? I need some other window work (fogging).

I, too, used to walk to my coach; took me about 15 minutes.  Knowing how our city council is bending to unrelenting pressure to build to the point of way overcrowding our island, I got a storage site on BFI: The odor of development was already impacting my nose and the new place is more secure. Don't bother with that storage "facility" at the former NAS. Looks like an impound lot. (I know which coaches you are talking about, BTW).

Ken Harrison,

I'd very interested know the city council to which you refer it San Francisco or another area nearby SF, and then I don't know and have tried to guess what BFI and NAS stand for. Thanks for your info. Wishing you the best with the storage of you fine coach.

Alameda City Council (and Planning Board). Bay Farm Island. Naval Air Station (now mercifully closed).
We have fine, long term, storage now. But as land prices continue to surge, even our treasured storage might vanish. As Paul Erhlich said (to paraphrase), "Too many people."

Not to worry about overcrowding on your island. With the latest global warming projections which call for a rise in ocean levals of about 200 feet, you should probably be considering trading your RV for a house boat anyway. :))
