Want to replace sofa

Yahoo Message Number: 113130
I have a 2003 Cascade Allure 40 and want to replace the stock jacknife sofa with a new pullout bed style sofa. Wondered if anyone has advice on this subject. Would like to be able to use a residential sofa that is cheaper to purchase than specific RV furniture from Flexsteel or similar if possible.

Has anyone attempted this?

All advice is appreciated.

I have not actually done this but I don't see where it would be a problem as long as you do not intend to have someone seated on the sofa wearing a seatbelt while traveling. Personally, I wouldn't be concerned about the seat belt thing. If my wife is riding shotgun, she wears a seat belt. Anywhere else in the coach, no belt. Aside from the seatbelt thing, if you can find a residential sofa that you like and it will fit, I say go for it. The amount of work required to do the swap will depend on if you can go through the door or if you have to go through a window. If you have a large living room window, that's not too bad. Just make sure it gets sealed up properly when reinstalling it. If you have to go through the windshield, that's a bit of work and I would have a professional handle the whole thing.

We are doing just that here in a couple of weeks. Worked with Oregon Motorcoach to order the fabric which was shipped to Villa to make the couch. It was cheaper this way than to order a complete couch from Villa. Villa couches come apart so that the pieces cone through the door and get assembled when in the coach. Also getting new captain's chairs doing the same thing with the covering material as getting new chairs is cheaper than having the old ones recovered.

I recently swapped out the jack knife sofa in my 04 Inspire. I got a great deal on a new Flexsteel hide a bed sofa (new / never used that was removed from a new Winnebago (they wanted theater seating) from Country Side Interior in Oregon. They shipped it to NJ. I highly recommend you contact / check them out. They were a pleasure to deal with.

Check out Rvseats4less.com we just ordered a full dinette booth, adjustable pedestal table, a swivel recliner captains chair, and a couch that becomes a double bed, all done in leather!! I'll let you know the quality when it arrives, it comes custom built from California and the price seems very fair, much less than flex-steel. Also, a residential couch/hide a bed may not fit thru the front door of the coach. All rv furniture is designed to come apart so it can fit thru the standard rv door opening, just something to consider!!

Interesting comment on replacing vs. reupholstering the captain's chairs. We've been looking at options for ours, which are worn in the seat area and pretty much sacked (no support) in the seat and lumbar area. New Villa chairs will be well North of $3000 each, whereas we've got an estimate for reupholstering and recovering the seats and adding lumbar support under the existing cover for a little more than a third of that, from an outfit that has had very favorable reviews. We're having that done in early December and I'll give you all a detailed report on the results.

We had the original front chairs replaced after seeing the chairs CC installed in 07 Magnas. They are Kustom chairs as I remember. We sold the original chairs to NW RV supply. As I remember the 2 chairs cost us $5000.00 Difference. I could look up the exact 2007 price if necessary. They have a lower and mid adjustable lumber support. The chairs in the 08 Intrigues have a single support as I remember. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731
