OAT Coolant Analysis, High Aluminum Levels

I had my 3 yr old OAT coolant analyzed and it showed very high levels of aluminum (25ppm) and high levels of what they called 'magnetized particles.' The recommendation was to drain, flush, refill with new coolant and test again in one year. This was done by JG Lubricant services. This OAT coolant was new in 2015. I spoke with JG's coolant expert and she explained that the testing did not suggest that the OAT protective properties were not good but that some sort of chemical reaction was going on to create such high aluminum levels. She said air leaking into the system could cause this. I have no visible evidence of leaks and I have not had to add coolant in the 3 year period since I had the drain, flush and refill of the original coolant with OAT. I do notice that the red color is gone and the coolant is sort of light amber. In speaking with Fleetguard (it is their coolant), they advise that may just be a breakdown of the dye they use to color the coolant and not a suggestion that the coolant has failed.

At this point, I have an appointment with Cummins Atlantic in Loris, SC to have it drained, flushed and refilled yet again with new OAT coolant. I plan to ask them to do a pressure test of the system to see if there are any leaks I cannot detect, and to replace the thermostat since I suspect it is the original. I've had no problems with overheating. My radiator is one of the 'suspect' radiators used by CC so the aluminum levels might be that core breaking down.

Anyone else have any similar issues with their coolant or otherwise have an analysis that showed similar results?

Take a look at coolant filter part number. Someone might have installed one containing pellets. That might explain color change.

After you get a few miles from on this refill, get another analysis test. Would not hurt to have it done by another location. (And note: Not intended as a ding to the first facility, as they have a solid reputation. But always good to have a fresh set of players:)!).
