You will need to disconnect the negative on the battery. I ended up putting something like a battery disconnect from a boat but this one has a small red detachable handle.
So you would connect to your coach, switch to neutral on the 4 wheel drive and then disconnect the neutral on battery.
I ran light wires all the way to the back and drilled my housing to insert a stand alone brake/tail light. Not convenient but with disconnecting power didn't know another way.
Good luck.

Hi Charles,
We towed our 2005 Silverado 1500 for 40k miles with our '01 36' Intrigue, most of them with a Harley Ultra in the bed, with no issues. I have a M&G braking system installed. That said, the newer PU's may have a different set of rules for towing, best to read the appropriate owners manuals on that one. Ours is nice in that it does not have steering wheel lock, take out the key and put it in your pocket.

We have been flat towing a Silverado for the past 8 years. It has not been a problem. We did put a separate wire and and bulb in the tailight lens. I put a quick disconnect on the negative side of the battery.

Depending on what type of braking system you use in the truck, you may not want to disconnect the battery. I use an RVi braking system which requires 12 volts in order to function. As long as the truck stays hitched it really doesn't matter. You don't need your truck brakes to help you stop a coach of that size. However, in the event of a breakaway, you need a braking system in the truck that will work while disconnected from the coach. That is the main purpose of the braking system in you towed vehicle.

My 2007 Silverado just required that I put the transfer case in neutral, the transmission in park, put the key in my pocket and drive on. I also had separate wiring from the socket on the front of my bumper all the way to the rear lights. The light kit was completely separate from the truck wiring. The kit is available from BlueOx. Now if the auxiliary braking system applies the brakes on the truck, the truck bake lights will illuminate too.

Hope this helps,

On 2014 an later with electric steering your battery must be disconnected according to a GM service notice. I wired my M&G system directly to my battery and hooked up my disconnect downstream. 20k miles later and working fine.
