2004 Allure - How to manually oprerate slide

How does one move the slides in or out manually if they won't move automatically?

The procedure is different for hydraulic and electric slides. See your owners manual - there is a detailed description there.

This is good for us to think about. We have an 06 Inspire and our slides are operated electrically. Ours have anchor points that we can use a crank on, we (Mike) think, and I was thinking if this is correct, should we have a crank on board our coach. Is it important to have a crank? We don't have one now, but one never knows when one might need that! Thanks for helping with my thinking here.

I think if you lose power you have to use a wrench from inside the bay to turn the shaft to bring the slide in just like if you snap a shear pin. I have not looked but I think you also have to release the brake to get it to move. I need to look also. I have tighten up the bolt that hold the gear box in on both sides, I could turn them by hand. The bedroom slide may be different, will check if it ever stops raining.
Just one more thing to think about.

On your 06 Inspire you don't need a crank. If it should happen to fail, more than likely it is one of two things, providing you didn't break a bolt. It's either the motor or the control board. If the motor and the slide is out remove the two bolts and with several people you can push the slide in. If it's the control board, both front slides have the same board. Simple to remove and install on the other side to bring in the slide. Also if it is the control board just wait a few minutes for the breaker to reset and try it again before changing boards. There is a fuse and a breaker on the board. If the resettable break trips several tome it gets weak. You can replace the breaker like I did. It will save you $100. which was the cost of the board several years ago. I replaced my breakers with 20 amp instead of the 15 amp and have no further problems. Hope this help cause all ready chased this problem for several weeks before I figured it out.

Mary, I don't have my 05 Inspire any longer. However, I use to carry a 14" pipe wrench to use to move slide in or out. You do have to release the motor brake. The hard part of moving slide in is with the slide extended getting it up the first few inches in. I have done this many times with broken shear pins. Solved the problem by keeping the bolts holding the motor in place tight. Hope this helps.

Never had a problem with any of the other slide except for the front driver side slide.

Thanks, Jock Vargo. We miss your always wise posts. This is more terrific info. We've only had problem with the passenger side slide, and Mike pushed it in by hand because it was only out a little bit.

Would it be possible for anyone to post an image of exactly where the gear and motor is located. I have a 2004 Allure and cannot seem to locate anything in the bays. I'm sure I've probably looked right at it and didn't realise what I was looking at.
Obviously I'm pretty new to all this.

It takes a 12" crescent wrench, because the drive shaft is 1" square tube and smaller wrenches won't do it. You COULD use a pipe wrench, but it'll do some damage to the drive shaft...
