compressor for airing up tires

I know this subject was discussed before, but I can't find it with the search. My husband is considering buying a compressor to air up the tires. I would hope to find something small but I'm not sure it would do the job. It seems like somebody had mentioned that the onboard air can do the job. Does it just take a long time no matter what you use?

I bought a Porter Cable pancake compressor rated at 135psi. I removed the regulator and it works much better and is much faster than trying to use the coach air system. If the coach system reaches max pressure it will not inflate tires. You have to catch it at the right point before it reaches max pressure. If you have alot of time to fool around with it that maybe ok, but after a couple years of that, a $300 compressor looked like a better alternative.

I purchased a Porter Cable 110v air compressor rated at 150 psi. While it does take up some storage space, it is nice to have for airing up the tires and not worrying about the coach air flasks and running that big deisel just to use the compressor.
Also, it is nice back up in the event of a problem with the any of the onboard systems which require air. I know of at least one person who had some sort of failure and his portable compressor allowed him to "get home."
The compressor came with a bunch of attachments, so you can use it for cleaning filters, hard to get to spaces, and just blowing things away.

I bought one at Costco a few years ago (previous coach). The first time I used it, it failed, blew the insides out or something. It was a heavy duty one and was supposed to be adequate, but it was not.

I use a Cambell- Hausefeld compressor to air my tires. small pancake type. Purchased at Harbor freight or Northern Tools. If you purchase one be sure it is oil lubed. If you don't it won't last. Have had mine 5 years still going strong.

Short of having a pro cut into your air system (I'm basically gutless when it comes to touching my air because I don't know enough about it) I recommend going to www.chpower.com and searching on FP2004. I used this many times on my CC to top off the tires and I'm really pleased.
Topping the last 5-10lbs (I do 105/rear, 110/front) takes less than 5 minutes/tire. I had to bring one up from 80 because I couldn't get the chuck on the inside dually and lost a bunch of air, and it took 10-15 minutes - not something I would do regularly.
The FP2004 is pretty light, tankless, and comes with a 50 foot coiled hose so it stores easily.

When I was at the Tampa RV show I saw a demo of a chuck with a straignt end. Most dual foot chucks have a backward head on an angle and a forward head on the same angle. This one is angled back but straight forward - reaches the inside dually with ease! This chuck was supposed to lock on the tire but I haven't had much luck with that feature but really don't care.

I put an onboard air chuck in the compartment under the drivers seat. You can call CCI parts and get everyting you need. Then call CCI tech and they will help with instructions of where and how to install. One thing you and most RVers will need is a straight in-line dual Ft. Lock-on Air Chuck. It is made especially for Alcoa wheels. It will put air in both inside and outside tires. Part number is 0003700, CH 370-LO-1. Phone is 888 699 7031 & cost is $7.99 plus shipping and handling. I found this part on the Alcoa website. Good luck!

I dont tap into the coach "anything"...for "anything". Not air...not eletrical..not anything. I bought a Sears pancake for $155 that goes to 150 PSI...it cycles between 150 shutoff and down to 120 start back up and it does a GREAT job.
