Macerators

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for a good maceration unit I will be spending a couple of months at my sons home he has power but the sewer drain is about 100 + feet slightly up hill

I have the same issue at son's ranch in CO. I bought a macerator on Amazon last summer, have used it several times, pumping thru a 5/8" garden hose about 125' level. Probably a bit slower, but certainly does the job.

I installed one in my coach about four years ago. I'm nowhere near my coach just now, but I think it is a Thetford. It is a small unit that I permanently attached to the bay floor. It connects to the drain. I bought an extra hose set so that I could get 100' of line. It is wonderful and has made my dumping (;-)) much less of a chore. It just takes more time (if you follow the dumping directions) because it allows you to use the gray water to further flush the black tank, which I do twice. And yes, it will pump uphill. Just be sure to "walk" the fluid out of the hose when done using.
A word of caution. If your son is on a septic system, do not (and I repeat DO NOT) pump RV sewage into a domestic septic tank unless you use no chemicals whatsoever. RV chemicals can kill the enzymes that make a domestic septic do its work.

There are, and I use rv holding tank treatments that are septic system safe, I recommend not using any formaldehyde base treatment, it's bad for the environment. I've been dumping in my own septic system for thirty years.

Only problem with the macerator is with hair wrapping itself around the cutting wheels. Needs occasional cleaning with needle nose pliers.

Ah, but at my age, the pubic hairs are not long enough to cause a problem. Or are we talking about head hairs that get in the gray tank from hair washing? Never had a problem there.

Maybe caused by people pulling their hair from mystery's that couldn't be solved? Or, people that have dogs and wash them in the shower, could be another reason.

My wife has waist length brown hair, some of which gets wrapped around the macerator knives if it gets past the drain sieve. Cleaning it out every couple of months isn't that much of a chore. I only use it if the dump is a distance away or on an upward slope. Good to have one on hand.
