Grey water tank valve

I had to replace the grey water tank valve because it was leaking. I pried the valve out but can't get the new valve back in. The black water tank pipe doesn't have any "give" since it goes right into the tank. The black water tank is the same way. Everything is very rigid with no "give". Anyone ever replace there grey water valve and how did they accomplish the feat.

It can be a problem.... You can try a ratchet strap to pull it apart and slide the new valve in. Just be careful not to put too much pressure on the piping & most important the tank. If not then either cut the pipe and couple it or pull the fitting out at the tank and rebuild. No easy answers

I'm not sure exactly, but I have heard of others making kind of a tool from a bolt and a couple nuts to use as a jack to spread the gap a little to slip the new valve in.

Gene, I replaced both grey and black valves in 2014 and it was a PITA. Not sure how your Intrigue is set up but with my Allure, I had to remove the stainless panel in the wet bay to reach the valves. In order to get the valves back together, I had to strong arm the black tank to the side just enough to get them back together. It did not move much but maybe 3/4 inch......just enough.

If it needs to be done again, I will pay someone else to do it.

I tried the same thing on my 99 intrigue in an Rv park, I got it out fine but no way could I get it back in with a hammer screwdriver and a pair of pliers, luckily I was in Eugene and went to omc they have a spreader tool to slide the new valve into place.

Did you just try and replace the flat valve body or did you also replace the valve hubs. The valve hubs have some leeway in them so you can work the valve into position.

Well I replaced both valves since I didn't want to have to do this again. A friend came over and helped me. We cut between 1/8 " to 1/4" of off the grey water tank pipe. That was enough to force the grey water valve back in. Then worked hard on getting the seal installed on the other side. It took a lot longer to get this done compared to the YouTube videos where there are lots of give on the long stretch of pipe.

Check for leaks and looks like everything is working like it should. I agree I will never attempt to replace those valves again.

The easy way is to get you a small hydraulic jack and a couple pieces if 1/2 inch thick pieces of wood. Remove all the nuts and bolts holding the black valve and the grey valve to the main lines. Position the jack horizontal between the tanks with a piece of wood on each end. Now slowly jack the pieces apart. You can spread the assembly apart approx, 1/2 apart which is enough to drop the black valve. the Y connector and the grey valve out as an assembly. Replace the old valves with new, reassemble the valves and the Y connector and put back in place and reinstall the nuts and bolts. Make sure you have lubed the seals to hold them into place. Very easy, should take about 1/2 hour. Been there, done that.

Don, the information you provided sounds genius. I am having trouble picturing the jack and the positioning. Is there any way you can send a picture of the jack. Was it a bottle jack? A floor jack with wheels?

I agree with Don, I too used a small bottle jack to force the valves apart however on my Magna it took a lot longer than 1/2 hour. Be sure to check for leaks afterwords because in getting the valves back in again I inadvertently crushed grey water valve seals. I had to replace the seals a few days later when I discovered that the new grey water valve was leaking, I was lucky it was only the grey water side.

I just replaced my gray valve I found that using 2 bolts to spread the opening worked better than the Jack I removed all bolts rotated valve so I could.put 2 bolts in the holes.used washer and nut to spread joint it opened joint evenly more than the Jack did valve came out and back in with little dificultiy.
