Cat C-9 engine anomaly

Here's one for the Cat engine group: Heading down the road yesterday I got a "check engine" yellow and a "stop engine" red appearing simultaneously - with no apparent anomalies on the Silverleaf. Pulled to the shoulder to check things out, and by the time I got slowed down, they'd disappeared. Silverleaf confirmed nothing out of normal limits, so I headed back out. Herself was driving behind me in our big car, and said I blew two huge clouds of black smoke about 5 miles after the event. No other symptoms at all. Pulling the codes after I got parked, I had a code 110, coolant temp and a code 310, "unknown" on the diagnosis screen. Any thoughts?

I had a similar issue with my Cummins and it was low coolant causing the coolant tank sensor to react on a grade. TWInsall 98 Allure 30255 and 2004 Intrigue 11731

Talked with my local CAT shop - the 310 code indicates a successful Regen cycle, so it nothing unusual. They suspect my coolant temp sensor may be going bad. Guess I'll motor on, but I'll sure be keeping an eye on those dash lights!
