HWH not going to travel mode

Our air leveling works fine, but Travel Mode light does not come on, nor does the coach return to travel height. Have unplugged control box to reset, which worked for a few minutes, but failed again on engine restart.

Any similar experiences? Ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have found the Bussman fuse boxes in the front run bay to have bad connections, so you do not get power, or you get sporadic power to HWH. The fuses may look fine, and check fine, but you do not get good current flow to the HWH. You may even show 12V at the HWH, but under load, the proper current will not flow because of these bad connections (crimps). There are two Bussman fuse boxes, (chassis and ignition), and they both have an HWH fuse. The connection ( crimp) behind the fuse is the weak connection. So to repair it, you have to remove the Bussman box and cut and recrimp that wire/fuse connector, which is major PIA. So I just installed inline fuses (outdoor automotive in sealed container) for those two HWH fuses and have never had an HWH power issue again. The CC manual (wiring schematics section) has all the wire numbers and CC diid a good job labeling all the wires so it is a pretty easy job.

There is also the vacuum operated brake switch on the wall of the electrical bay below the driver seat. If that fails I don't think it will go into travel mode.

On my Affinity 5695 last summer had a similar issue. Last thing that seemed to clear the issue was pulling off the over head control panel where the leveling keypad is mounted, removing and resetting the ribbon cable that is connected to the back of the HWH keypad. Dont know if it was just a little loose or had a little corrosion, but seemed to work from there on.

I seem to recall that I wasnt getting proper voltage on one of the input power pins on the HWH controller in electrical bay when the issue was present.

There's threads here and on other sites about about how you can manually level the coach well enough to drive a little while if needed until you get it resolved.

Does it go into Travel mode if you press the "Off" button on the dash leveling panel? When you press the Off button, do you hear any relays clicking in the main control box? Do any of the red corner lights come on when attempting to go into travel mode, or do all the lights on the dash panel just go out and nothing else happens?
Depending on the answers to these it could be a couple of different causes. I had the same problem - mine would not go into Travel mode with the Off button or disengaging the parking brake - and I ended up having to remove the central control box and ship it to HWH; they found a bad transistor and relay on the main circuit board. Repaired and shipped back to me and all is well ever since. If you're handy with a volt meter and can access the control box circuit board in the coach they can guide you through the diagnosis.

BTW: I installed a SPDT switch in mine that intentionally disrupts the blue wire that comes from the park brake sensor (which connects that circuit to ground when the parking brake is applied) - flipping my switch connects it directly to ground in order to purposely achieve the condition you describe. That way I can use the manual leveling while traveling in the event of a ride height sensor failure (which I have had happen twice) or if I need to lower the coach to drive into a garage etc. So Chris G is correct, you can manually adjust the suspension and drive it that way to get to a repair facility.

Do you have any more details on how to install the SPDT switch on the leveling system so you can travel in the manual level mode. I would really like to install such a switch so I can manually set heights in case of failure of a ride height valve. Pictures, switch description and specific instructions would be great. I have 2007 Magna with what I believe to be a 2000 series HWH air leveling system.

Steve, I think you can manually adjust height on your Magna while driving. I have 2006 Magna and have raised the rear end before to clear an obstacle. Try it.

That sounds like a good idea for a write-up. I have the electrical diagrams for my 500-Series HWH system, but I suspect others are similar. The basic gist is to find the wire coming from the parking brake switch on the coach - in my case it is a blue wire that is labeled as circuit 9000.
What I did was cut that wire, and connect the HWH end of it to the center of a single pole double throw switch. Then the other two terminals of the switch, one connects to the parking brake end of that wire and the other connects directly to a chassis ground. So when the switch is in one position it is re-connecting that wire to the parking brake, and in the other position it is connecting the HWH directly to ground (which makes it "think" it is always in Park and thus allows it to be in manual adjust mode).

When I get time I'll do a formal writeup for the Country Coach Owners Group on Facebook and/or the Country Coach International club newsletter with details & pictures & wiring diagram.

Always something new to learn. Always good exercise to better understand our coaches even if we don't have the issue. Always fun to learn new stuff, how all the systems work and more importantly, fit together. Owning a magnificent CC is all about "continuous learning."

Heading out tomorrow and I will give that a try. My little understanding of the system would lead me to believe as soon as I release the air brake it goes to travel mode. I will try to force the system to manual level mode while driving. I assume you do this by pushing the "Level Air" button once to enter manual level mode. Selecting it twice would enter auto level mode. Is there a speed at which the system will re-enter the travel mode, similar to the Tag Axel auto lower.

There is a page on this in your manual. The Magna can be adjusted manually while underway, no need for the switch. It also does specify the max speed, I forget, I think about 15 mph similar to tag. Works great on mine. Dig out your manual and have a look.
