Lack of Power - Diesel Mileage

We have a question for some of the tech help on our site. Our coach is a 2000 CC Allure #30536 with a 330 hp ISC Cummings engine. We currently have 32,000 miles on the coach and my husband feels that it has less power than it should and the MPG is gradually diminishing. We have had all the servicing done on schedule.
Do any of you have any thoughts as to what, if anything, could be our problem. Any suggestions on what we can do?

First, to "feel" like you don't have proper power is too subjective to really analyze. Let me suggest the following: Drive the coach and apply full throtle, observe the turbo boost gauge. If you are getting 23-26 lbs of boost showing on the gauge you are probably OK. If you do not have proper boost then check (tighten) all induction hose fittings. If you have a loose turbo induction hose clamp you will loose boost. Check all intake fittings. If a hose is loose anywhere the same will happen. This is not a technically challenging job but it will create some unusal body positions to complete the task. If this doesn't do the job it gets more complicated, like proper fuel pressure etc., and will probably reguire a good shop to do some diagnostics. A cummins shop would be best, especially one that can do a dyno test. Good Luck!

I'll just add to some good ides by Lyle. My mileage problem was solved when it was discovered my exhaust manifold was cracked.
Cummins fixed it under warranty.

In 2002 on the trip from "Hades" we lost the fuel pump to make the story short. We learned a couple of things. That there was a new protocol for the ISC 330, that a wiring harness needed to be changed, that some of the heat, oil pressure sensors were causing problems. Maybe your problem is hiding in there somewhere? Anyway, the fuel mileage went up, I could climb the grade east out of Albuquerque and south out of Socorro much better than before. The only thing I noticed that was detrimental was a little more soot being deposited on the panel directly behind the exhaust pipe. Has anyone put a computer on the engine to look for any negative codes. How's the air filter and fuel filters and have you bought any diesel fuel where you shouldn't have? Your engine should still be under the 5 year warranty so I would take it in to Cummins and have a computer run off done and see if there is anything wrong.
They can tell you almost anything about your engine from the data they get on the computer, the computer at Cat even told me how fast Phyllis drove the coach when I was asleep. They may charge you about $40 for the computer check if there is nothing wrong but it is worth the peace of mind.

Usually when the driver senses that something is wrong...it usually is. After 32k miles, Emerson's seat of the pants feelings are probably more accurate than any gauge. He should know when power and mileage is dimishing.

Did they change the air filter when you had the coach serviced? A dirty or clogged air filter will rob you of HP & fuel mileage...big time. Don't depend upon the Air Filter Minder gauge, they are usually inaccurate.

You engine is still under warranty..bring it to Cummins. They can put it on a dyno and get engine performance readings from the ECM.
