Rearview Camera

Hi, Had the coach out for a short 3 day trip, and the rear camera was not working most of the time. I tried to reset it by retracting the screen to the stow position and manually selecting through the modes, all seem to work OK except VT1. It would come on at random times and last a very short time up to an hour or longer.
Always inop. when needed most, naturally.
Not sure of the make of this unit but I believe it is used on most of the older coaches.

Anyone with an idea plz let me know, the previous owner must have misplaced the manual, as I have nothing that discribes the system.

We had the same problem with our backup camera. Ultimately found a broken inline fuse holder that was broken. It was located in the under-dash compartment on the passenger side, down close to the floor. Replaced the fuse and fuse holder & the camera worked well again. Dr. Stan

Not so rare, I know that myself and two other rigs had the same problem. Didn't bother to post as Dr. Stan sent you looking in a good direction.

Tried to tape my fuse holder up, ended up replacing it with a new 'inline' unit from the auto parts store.

The multi pin cable that runs to the camera (from the same box with the bad fuse holder) was also loose giving me problems with brightness and contrast. A dab of RTV between the outside of the connector body and the case cured that trouble.

I'm interested in what your find to be your problem.

Jim, thanks for the reply, nice to know that there seems to be a common problem/fix.

I do have a rather dumb question. I attempted to remove the padded panel on the r/h side of the dash but the 4 buttons that seem to hold the panel in place are giving me problems. Do these buttons unscrew, pull out, or what? I live daily with 'Murphy's Law' so before I messed around and broke something I thought I would ask for some advice.

In our '02 and '00 Magna's they just pop off by using a flat-bladed screwdriver under the edge. There is a phillips screw underneath.

-Jim, as you and others said, the cover buttons just pop off. Well I removed the panel and checked around, no fuse holder appeared damaged, and the conections in the two video boxes that are attached to the upper part of the dash both seemed to be secure and the connections were all OK. A strange however, the box labled VT1 VT2 etc. had no connected wires to VT1. That is the selection I was told to use for rearview and has been working until recently. Nothing is missing the terminal is covered with a factory looking cap.
Of course while I was rooting around in the wires the video display was as steady as a rock. Even the Mini Message Center that has been acting up and sticking on ABS was reading Odometer as it has in the past [still not working correctly, but stuck on a function I can use] so as I said in another post, Murphy lives in my spare room, I swear he does.
