I previously reported a problem with my PacBrake -- where I had very low torque and HP, along with black smoke, while trying to climb a hill after using the brake on a downhill stretch. No engine check lights. Here are the results:

At the Tucson Rally, CC lubricated the PacBrake (with some petroleum based lube), and also commented that the PacBrake was mounted upside down. I had no further problems.

A few weeks later, while having my coach serviced a "R Mechanic" in Livermore CA, I noted that they carried the real PacBrake Lube (a synthetic lubricant). I asked them to take a look at the PacBrake because of my past problems. There first observation was that it was mounted upside down, which could cause carbon buildup and create the problem I had. They also felt that periodic lubrication is necessary. I contact Country Coach and they agreed to pay the 1.5 hours of out-of-warranty service necessary to rotate the PacBrake to its proper position. Turn out that they also needed to replace the air line with a longer air line (probably why the factory mounted it upside down!).

The bottle recommends "annual lubrication, unless vehicle is exposed to excess moisture or periodic/seasonal use". Unfortunately, it is necessary to remote the access on my closet step in the bedroom with bed slide.

A stuck PacBrake ranks up there with the worst experiences while climbing a hill -- you just hope there is a shoulder.
