Can anyone reccomend (sp?) an rv park in New Orleans? We are on our way to TN coming in to New Orleans on I10. Thanks in advance, Dale Hollick 05 Affinity 6370

We have stayed in the Jude Travel Park & Guest House which is in the City of New Orleans. It was okay and we had no complaints, the people were very nice and it rates a 4w in Woodals for facilities.
2w for recreation. It features gray line bus tours with a pick up in the campground which we used the first day. Then we used our car the rest of the time. Looking in the book I also saw a new campground called the Mardi Gras. Haven't been there so I can't offer an opinion. Jude was okay and we went back to it a second time since it is so close to the French Quarter. It isn't a five star resort but it does have excellent security and you feel safe and at home. Reservations are a must since many groups use this campground. It is a small campground.

Is this your first trip to N.O.?

John, thanks for the response. Yes, this is our first time to go there. I saw both the parks you mentioned in the book. We will probably arrive after dark, that is the reason we asked for input. Sometimes we have found that even when we call ahead, tell them our rig size, we cant fit because of trees etc. Thanks again, see you in TN, Candace & Dale

Reason I asked if this was your first time was to tell you that you should not wander away from the French Quarter into the surrounding areas. The French Quarter is totally safe and we have never had a problem or were advised of a problem but we were told both by the campground and the guide on our first tour that the area around it is not the best. Parking for your car is right along the river in the French Quarter and is in a big parking lot. Watch for the signs. The French quarter itself is walkable from and to any area if you are in moderately good shape. Best restaurand in the world (in my humble opinion) is Chef Pauls, get there early or make a res, you'll love the cajun cooking. Avoid the parking meters, expensive and short. Definately take a stroll along Bourbon Street and try to do it in the evening when the jazz bars are booming. Have a great trip and let me know in Tenn how you made out.

I don't know if this would work for you, but there's an excellent state park north of Lake Ponch. called Fairview River State Park. We stayed there and loved it. It's an easy drive across the causeway to NO then. Warning though...we loved being in the wooded part of the park and fit our site fine, but getting out was tight...ask to be put in the "back end" by the river. It's a beautiful place...
Have fun in TN...we can't make it unfortunately...so close, but can't do it...we're in Roanoke, VA, but no time off that week to attend the rally. Spring is here in full swing now, so it's gorgeous. You'll have missed the dogwoods and redbuds...too bad..Have a great time at the rally! Jan McNeill

The are a couple of parks in the area of Jude park. They are on Chef Mentour (sp?) easy on and off to the French Quarter and back. Also take the trolley to the Garden District or drive there. Beautiful homes along to route and back in the district. If your a coming in from the west on I-10 stop at Pat's in Henderson. Great little restaurant on the Bayou. It is about 10 miles east of Layfette, LA.
Great Cajun Food and if you are lucky you may get to see an alligator swimming around looking for an easy meal. Bourbon St. great up until about 12 or 1am after that stay away. Jackson square and the aquarium-don't miss.

Dale,

Just got back from New Orleans. We stayed at KOA West which is west of french quarter by the airport. The KOA is very safe, but a reservation is probably needed. They save up front parking for large coaches which are easy to access. We had a very large concrete site.
Park has shuttle to french quarter for $3. They also have a deal with local taxis which will take or bring up to 5 persons to or from french quarter for $25. Park is very clean. We stayed for $34.75 a day.

Hope this helps..............
Steve

Hey Jan, thanks for the response to our question.
Sorry you cant make the TN rally. I will write you an email off the board later in May. If we come your way maybe we can get together. Candace

Dale,

No speake the French--Just the phrase that I picked up from the many times that we have been in NO. We're about 600 miles away and try to go there every other year. However, most of the times our travels will take us through the area as it did two years ago--three times in NO in about two months.

Thanks to all for comments and suggestions. We ended up at the KOA and it is fine. The Mardi Gras park did not work at all, to small, too many trees, no room to maneuver a 45` rig. This was our first time to visit this area and we wish we had more time to explore. We will probably come back another time. It is time to move on towards TN.
