Generator Start Switch

Yahoo Message Number: 10599
My interior start/stop switch for the Generator just went out! had the genset on and went to turn off and it just rev'ed up! Went to the manual switch located on the genset and it started and stopped fine.
The interior switch starts the genset but as soon as I let go, it stops. Anybody else had this problem? Is this something one might be able to fix themselves?

Thanks

Mickey

Haven't had that problem yet on my '95 Intrigue. Sounds like the switch went bad. You could probably find one at frys or CCI Parts.

Mickey,

I have a '97 Intrigue and experienced a similar problem. Mine would not start with the interior switch. So I took the switch apart and traced everything back to the genset before I found the problem at the connection to the genset. There is a three (or four pronged) plug from the switch that plugs into the genset at the right rear corner when facing it. This plug is subject to corrosion and vibration. One of mine had a wire broken where it solders to the prong. In my case, it was the Stop/Preheat wire. I went to Radio Shack and found the right size "prongs" and soldered one to the broken wire, removed the broken one and replaced it. I would have replaced the whole plug, but I couldn't find the right one at the time. It is still working fine and it has been about a year since I fixed it. I suspect yours is one of the other wires.

Hope this helps,
Joe from Michigan

Joe and Mike,

Thanks for the info regarding my genset problem! I'll check to see if the connection on the genset is suspect if not then I'll look at replacing the switch.
