Travel after the rallies

I'm considering traveling down Hwy 1 from Oregon to Crescent City after I get the repairs done at the factory on August 30. (that may take a few weeks. LOL)

What is the best highway to take from Junction City to the coast in Oregon?

Has anyone driven Hwy 1 south along the Oregon Coast in their big coaches? Is it difficult and very narrow or???
There are a couple of Thousand Trails preserves on the Oregon Coast.
Has anyone camped at them?

Not an expert on the Oregon coast. But during the past two weeks I did a round trip with the coach from Junction City to Newport (Pacific Shores Outdoor Resort) via Corvalis on highway 20. About two hours. Nice drive. Several two lane up-grades. Another coach and I only needed to use a turnout once to let cars pass. Light traffic. Also did a second round trip with a rental car as we had to leave our toad at the Newport Honda for some repairs. A little strange two lefts and a right in Corvalis to transition from 99W from Junction City to westbound 20. Likewise for the reverse trip!

Among the locals I spoke with, it seems to be the preferred route over Eugene - Florence, unless you want to start at Florence on the coast.

Carol, the trip is great. We took the reverse of it 2 years ago...
Take 126 from Eugene to Florence...no real problem...a bit twisty in places, but Ok in a big rig. From Florence down to Crescent City on 101 is lovely. Make sure to stop in Bandon, one of our favorite places (but you have to take the toad to find the gorgeous beach which is not visible from the road you'd be on.)

FYI...if you go to Florence, stop in Woahink Lake RV Park (easy pullthroughs) and stay overnight a day or two...they have direct access to beautiful dunes, and also, drive north (in the toad) to see Heceta Head Lighthouse, one of our favorites.

Where are you headed after Crescent City? We took 101 all the way to Napa, CA area...the whole drive is fabulous...took several weeks to do it, sometimes only moving 50 miles away.

No TT experience for you.

Carol, one caution when traveling 101----a buddy of mine was fined $ 135 when pulled over for " holding up traffic ". He was driving the speed limit in his 40' coach pulling a toad, and at that time ( 3-4 years ago) the turnouts were not long enough to accomodate his rig. Maybe they've enlarged thethem by now, but a word to the wise. Don't let more than four or five cars back up behind you. The Oregon cops are not very understanding.

I came up 101 from Eureka to Florence and across to Eugene. The Oregon part is easy, California takes a little patience and no sight seeing by the driver. TWI 42' Intrigue 11731

Yes, the entire Oregon Coastline (#101) is RV driveable into N.
Calif. At Leggett, Ca. you can take Hiway # 1 along the coast to Mendocino. Then take Hiway # 128 to return to #101. BEWARE, south of Mendocino, Hiway #1 is treacherous, sharp curves, and unsafe for large RVs, esp in the southbound oceanside lane.

Enroute south on #101 in Oregon, a boatride on the Rogue River (Jerry's or The Mailboat) is worth a stop. We stayed at Kimball Creek RV Pk. where the boats will pick you up at their pier on the river. Hiway #84 along The Columbia River is also a scenic route.
There is a unique Museum plus a panoramic view of the Columbia R. at Maryhill, Wa. across the river from Biggs. Hiway #97 is scenic as you view the various peaks of the Cascade Mt. Range. Lots of wineries to visit too.

Wash. State Points of Interest include the Olympic Peninsula, RainForests, Port Townsend, Mt St. Helens, plus, Wineries. Wash. state is now 2nd to Calif. in wine production in the USA .

The Pac. NW is an RVers paradise to visit. Their state parks usually have hookups.

For Elk Club members, their lodges frequently have RV parking / hookups.
