Cotton vs Paper Air Filters

Yahoo Message Number: 11402
At the recent FMCA Rally in Redmond, I attended a seminar on Air Filter Maintenance, presented by Danny Allison from Florida. He was advocating the superiority of Cotton Air Filters over paper types. Of course, Mr. Allison sells Cotton Air Filters. His conversion kit for my ISC Cummins was $265, verses a paper filter from the Cummins booth for $50. Does anybody have experience or opinions with cotton air filters. Cotton is suppose to allow better air flow??? Thanks

Lee. I attended the FMCA rally in Albuquerque and saw the same presentation. I then asked the Detroit Diesel rep his opinion and was told that OEM air filters flow way more than the engine needs. In fact he said that the wastegate on the turbo is what regulates the air into the engine not the filter. His advice-stay with the OEM filters.

Lee,

I have a 2003 Allure 40' w/Tag and use a filter I purchased from Danny and have others in our club that use his filters. We are having good success so far, his $265 price looks a little high, suggest you negotiate.
