Why not a Prevost?

Just curious to see if any of you have ever considered a Prevost conversion, being a Country Coach or any other converter. I recently had the opportunity to drive one. And yes, it drove and handled like a million bucks.. literally!

With the cost of the new Magna and Affinity approaching used Prevost levels, is a Prevost now an option some of you are considering? I'm sure cost is the main reason most of us only admire a Prevost, but don't own one. Perhaps the size and complexity keep us away? My wife says there is a certain image that goes with it, and that she doesn't fit that image.

If costs weren't an issue, would you own one?

Rob, try driving a new Mag or Aff, mine drives like a million bucks and did not cost but cost but half! There is nothing like a new coach, fixes and all. We love our quad slides, the room to live everyday and entertain 6 or 8 people, the residential feel. No, we would not want to go back to 2 slides. Others probably have a difference of opinion. I am sitting here in Golden Colorado looking at my Favorite Marathon #796 parked in the site next to mine. The guy wants to unload it because the Computer system & Crestron control system are driving him crazy. It cost
1.3 mil in2003, he paid 998 thou and owes 600 thou. Marathon is going to
replace the Computers. But, when you realize my Ovation has more storage space under neath. More floor space more upper storage space, slides that you don't have to trip over, an entry you don't have to be a mountain goat to climb, and no computers to run everything!!! I'll stick with my Intrigue. If I were going to be crazy I'd buy a Newell with four slides a Murphy bed with a fold out table under neath for Carol's Quilting, Two Runco Plasmas with M&K Speakers, Mc Intosh electronics and Pro Panasonic recorders. Two, two burner cook tops and a real gas oven, and Paykel- fisher dish washers. By the way he is getting 5.5 mpg and I'm getting 8. Wonder if Carolyn and Debbie could build me an Affinity with an ISX instead.

Ditto on the computer system. The one I drove also had major computer issues according to the owner. It seems they have gone way overboard with controls. I think Country Coach also offers the same computer systems in their Prevost.

I didn't really consider the limited storage that you pointed out.
It makes you wonder where are the premium benefits of a Prevost conversion?

And oh yes, Newell makes a fine looking motorhome.

Just thought I would add a few comments on this subject. Prevosts are not for everyone thats for sure. I do have one ( a 1991 CC ), but the reason I own one is not for an image. I had owned several motorhomes and I wanted a BUS not a motorhome and after a long and exhaustive I found one I could afford so I bought it and I am glad I did. There is a BIG difference between a bus and a motorhome and there are some great bus sites on line. I also looked at MCI buses and GMC buses but I never could find a good deal on one or I would have bought it. The image thing may be out there but not all of us.

We personally vote "no" ... mainly 'cause they're "too long" for our needs.
36' is just fine for us. If we wanted something longer, we could've bought it.

BTW ... many of the folks who responded to me said that bus conversions are too gaudy, so I informed 'em that ... if you buy new ... you can order 'em "non-gaudy." They didn't know that.

We also have a 36...an Allure. We did NOT want a 40 because we found many wonderful State Parks that would not accept that large a coach.
Driving the 36 (2002) is also a joy. (Easily u turns!) So, no Prevost for us, and we would buy another 36 but don't think we'd go larger unless our traveling days are over.

Just bout anything you want, but then CC woke up and decided to do the same thing with an Affinity. I do think the Prevost slide mechanism is superior, and the chassis is probably superior, but weight has become a real issue.

I have wondered for some time why more people don't buy Prevosts instead of these home built over gageted rigs, that are out of date in a couple of years. Before I would pay these unreal prices for a new glass rig, I would buy a used Prevost, CC's or whatever. I owned one for 5 years, and the bus part of it is really first rate. What the converter does with the house part of it is another matter. I would not buy something too new, 98 or so. They do hold their resale when bought right used. The Prevost company has repair stations around the country, and their service is really first class. These busses drive like a dream, and are much safer.

Drawbacks? A couple. While not all owners are open a friendly, most are. There is always the Bus Nuts. What would be a scratch on a glass coach, will be a dent of a bus, and that can be big trouble. They seem complicated, but really aren't that bad, and no more that todays highend glass rigs, and don't weigh anymore either I serviced mine myself as a full timer. If I were buying one now, I would get a 40' 95 to 98 or so. I know, no tip, but really having lived in a 40 for five years full time, it was big enough.

Do I have one now, no, I have other interests, and keep a 32 Allure to run around around in, but if I wanted something 40', I would jump to get one again.
