Fresh Water Quality

Does anyone out there know how often you are suppose to flush the fresh water system or if you recommend using some sort of additive to the fresh water?
Last week I had to flush the whole fresh water system because it was giving off a bad smell like rotten eggs. I flushed the system with a solution called Sparkle Clean(?). It comes in a gallon jug and is blue. It took me almost 4 hours to perform because the instructions call for flushing the system several times after using the solution.
Also is there an easy way of draining the fresh water system on the Allures? I opened all the faucets and drained the system that way.

We fulltime in a 40' Intrigue and this is what we do: about every 3 months, I put a solution of a half cup Clorox into our white fresh water hose, try to get the solution all through it, then reattach it to the water spigot, let it sit an hour or so, then turn the water on (so the fresh water is pushing the Clorox solution into the tank.) I let the tank fill while adding another cup and a half of Clorox to it ( via the regular little fill hole). Then open taps in the rig, one at a time until you smell the Clorox coming out (toilet, shower, sinks.) Let this all sit for a couple of hours (make sure to run hot water faucet too so the water heater is filled with this solution...that's usually the culprit of stinky water).
Then I return, and yes, it's a pain to drain water out via the faucets, but we haven't found another way either. I DO try to do a WHITE laundry (thereby using the 'bleachy water') to help get rid of some of the water. I don't bother to drain the whole thing...get it down to 1/4 or 1/2 and fill again, and it's dilute enough for most uses other than drinking or ice cubes...we use bottled when "on the tank" anyway. Oh, yes...that's the time we change our external water filters, too...so everything should be pretty clean.

Hi Jan,

Thank you for the info. I'll give that a shot next time; sounds cheaper than the $20 I spent on the Sparkle Clean solution. I didn't think about the water filter. Does that need to be changed each time or is once a year enough?

Every so often, I just do several loads of laundry to use up the water in the tank, then re-fill it. Even if I put some bleach in to sanitize it, it is not enough to hurt the laundry. The tank is emptied and the water not wasted.

After opening the drain line, turn on your water pump. . .it doesn't take long to dump the tank with the water pump on.

Hi Everyone,

Just got off the phone with Country Coach discussing a few matters that I had questions with.
On maintaining fresh water quality, they reiterated what Jan McNeil and others had mentioned about using a cup of bleach for every 100 gallons of fresh water. Then dump and fill twice with fresh water. On the third fill with fresh water, they recommended you add about half a quart of real lemon juice to the fresh water (I guess it makes your water taste nice). Dump that and refill again and then your good to go. They also recommended changing the water filter at this time.
They also told me where the fresh water drain is on my Allure. I can access the fresh water drain petcock through the access panel in the utility bay. And as others have mentioned, run the water pump when dumping the fresh water; but, turn it off after dumping the water.
