303 Aerospace Protectant

Yahoo Message Number: 11775
Spoke with the CC factory today about what to use on the roof in the way of a protectant. They advise I use something which has UV protection as well as containing Teflon and to apply it at least twice a year. I remember a while back, on this board, we had a thread concerning roof protectant. So, I have a few questions:
Was it determined that 303 was good enough to use on the roof? If it was, does 303 contain Teflon? Or was something else recommended to use on the roof? Sorry, I don't remember what the final conclusions were. If someone could bring me up to speed as to what is best to use on the roof, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick,

We were into the Aero---- 303 sometime in February, I think.
I had it and two others compared analytically. All three are about the same composition. 303, Nu Vinyl and Vinylex.
I don't think they had any Teflon in them.
I just finished repaint my roof, so won't be using anything on it till spring. Then I'll give it a coat of 303. Also use 303 on the tires.
Note: don't use a solvent based product on the tires, stay with a water based material, like 303.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the feedback ... I remember one of the members (you?) did a anaylsis of the protectants; it was good stuff. I'll see if I can get my hands on the other two you mentioned. Do you recall how often the protectant(s) should be applied to the roof? The bottle of 303 I have states "303 should be applied every 3-5 weeks for maximum UV protection". I was hoping that I wouldn't have to do it more than twice a year.

Thanks,

Rick Barnette,

I used 303 on the roof of my 01 Mag for 4 years and never had any chalking once I started doing 303 every 3 months. I don't think it has teflon, but I don't think you want anything to glossy. When I apply 303 I don't buffet it to make it shine, I leave it hazy.
I will continue to use 303 on my 05 Magna.

I would suggest three times a year. Late spring, (Apr.-May), mid summer(July) and late summer, early autumn (Sept-Oct). The UV levels are at their highest during the summer and tapper off by October.
