Hi, does anyone use Street Atlas 2004 USA ? I bought this software at the FMCA Rally in OR. and just now have started to use it.
I'm the first to admit I'm a bit 'cybe challenged' but I have real problems with just about all functions of this program. I have tried the 'User Guide' the 'Help' and have called DeLorme 'Support' line.
[not a toll free number].

I guess what I'm looking for is an 'After Market Publication' that can guide me in the right direction [no pun intended].

I haven't ruled out defective software but one of the problems of buying at a Rally, the vendor is gone, so a return is not an option.

If anyone know of a good book on the program please let me know.

Larry what is your problem with the delorme software I have used the original 95 then 98 then 2003 and now the 2004 on my laptop and not having any trouble

We have used Delorme Street Atlas software for more than 5 years and swear by it. Yes, it takes some trial and error to get the easiest routine for creating routes and learning some of the shortcuts, but well worth the effort. I have some of the newest versions, but still prefer Version 9.0.
Based on version 9.0, a couple of suggestions: Open map and select start point by typing in address or clicking mouse cursor on map location & choosing start with a right click menu choice. Next, do the same for the finish point (with same options); and learn to use the "Find" menu choice. After you have established the Start & Finish, modify the route by zooming into as necessary to "Insert Vias" to alter the route as you wish to create the path you want to travel. We spend the most time with the "Vias" and "Stops" to adjust our trip. Also, you should set up your "Preferences" for road type, speed, etc.
Hang in there. You'll love the real time mapping as you travel, and learn to zoom in to see the correct lane to be in before you get to the intersection! It is absolutely the most cost effective tool for interactive mapping.

I have no good news. I spend summers near Delorme and have always bought software direct. When they came out with the new format like is used in 2004 I couldn't beleive how difficult it was to use. I spent hours working with it and spent some time at the sales office working with thier techs. I finally gave it up and took it back to them for a refund.

I have gone back to version 8 and will stay there till Delorme returns to a simpler format. I would rather deal with an outdated database than a program that is unusable. There is a Delorme user forum on the internet. If you look there you will see that lots of folks have trouble with it. I have asked Delorme to consider returning to the old style and got a flat NO. I no longer buy from them. MS Streets and Trips is a pretty decent program and very inexpensive. I use that a lot also.

I have used the DeLorme mapping programs for many years. I have bought the 2000-2004 versions, but never got used to them. I was still using SA9 until I got to Redmond and there I purchased the Co-Pilot system. There is a learning curve to be sure, but it works very much like SA9. There are things that I still like better in SA9 and things I have not figured out yet, but I am still learning the program. There probably is a user group, but I have not taken time to find it. I was having a problem with the GPS losing the signal frequently--on a sunny day without a tree in sight, sometimes several times a day. I purchased a new one from DeLorme, and it was no better. The GPS receiver that came with the Co-pilot software has NEVER lost the signal. I am pleased.

Being very "directionally challenged", I don't drive without it.
