Koni shocks

As a point of ref on the issue of Koni settings; My 04 Intrigue was porpoising quite a bit and bottoming out on hard road and bridge seams. Had the Konis set full firm (they were set full soft) and found a noticeable inprovement although not as much as I expected.
The bouncing now stops after one cycle rather than several and the hard bottoming does not happen as often. Going from full soft to full firm should not create a huge difference.

Lyle, I had a similar problem with my 03 Allure ( with tag) and setting shocks to firm helped but didn't solve the problem. I talked to Doug Rutherford about it and he said it was most probably a ride height problem. Although I had previously had ride height checked, I had it re-checked and the front was low about 1/2 inch. After adjusting it to proper height I had no more bottoming out and the coach rides better than ever.

Has anyone adjusted their Koni shocks on the front? My 2004 Allure is porpoising too much and has bottomed out a few times over harsh roads.
I know they are adjustable, just curious if anyone has made an adjustment, and if so, what were the results?

Hi Brian, I have a 99 intrigue that bounced like a new tennis ball.
Adjusted the fronts to full firm setting. Steady as a cruise liner now.
You will feel the road a little more, but well worth the change. Mike 10738

I have an 05 Allure. I took my shocks from low to medium then to firm. Medium was 0k, but not what I wanted, so I then moved to firm. It took the boucing out, and the bottoming out, and improved the general handling of the coach. It also really helped with the tracking. Now it drives like I think it should and it tracks really well.

I have a 2005 Inspire that had a simular problem. The shocks were already set on firm and the coach stilled bottomed out. After three trips to the CC shop in Gilroy, CA. and was told the ride height was set to spec. the coach was ready. I insisted the coach be driven by the service manage before I would pickup the coach.

The service manager called the next day and claimed he did not get out of the parking lot before he relized there was a problem with the coach bottoming out.

The ride height was raised. Just by looking at the wheel arch and the top of the tire they had to raise the ride height least five to six inches above the spec. ride height. This has solved the issue you have which sound simalur.

I don't know if this is helpful, however, it did solve my issue.

The CC Tech at the factory also stated the coaches were delivered with shocks set to the medium setting and needed to be set to firm

Is this adjustment that several have done easy and something a reasonably handy person could do; or like most suspension items should only be done by repair shop? We just got back from Canadian Maritime trip and were bounced all around most of the summer. Lots of bumpy roads up there!

Search for "Koni Shocks" in this forum. There was a good exchange about 6 months ago.

Short answer: Yes, I adjusted mine to full firm and it made a world of difference. Easy job. Good luck!

Good morning, When on the factory tour last week the guide told us that the front shocks on the Allure/Intrigue line were a new design for 2007 and were self adjusting?
I should have requested more information about make of new shocks and whether they can be retrofitted to older coaches.
Maybe some one taking a tour will ask and report back on this topic. Thanks.

Brian, I had the same problem with my 03 Allure when it was new. Adjusting the shocks helped, but did not completely stop the bottoming out. It turned out to be a slight adjustment needed on the ride height valves.

I had mine adjusted at the factory last year and it made a dramatic difference. It used to bottom out all the time and now it never does. The ride is still good also.

Brother in law has a 98 CC Intrigue with 4 Koni shocks that are supposed to be adjustable. He has around 55,000 miles on his coach.
Has anyone out there adjusted their shocks and does it make a difference? How much do you generally turn them up? I've been told half turn and also a full turn. Any help will be appreciated as us two old guys are going to try to do adjust them ourselves. Thanks, Jim W.

I have adjustable Koni shocks on my 06 Inspire and I did adjust (tstiffened up) them myself. Yes, it does make a difference. Best advice is to determine exactly what model Koni shock is on the coach and go to the Koni web site and you can download instructions for that particular hock. Even a non-mechanic like myself was able to do it pretty easily.

Jim, Go to the Files section of this site and look for the file "Shock Adjustment" there are two PDF the second one tells how to adjust KONI Shocks. According to the file you must remove the shock from the vehicle to perform the adjustment.

I went to the Koni web site and downloaded their instructions. I did not have to "remove" the shocks to adjust them. I did have to remove the lower connecting bolt and was able to adjust the shocks with just the one bolt removed.

The only problem is you have to compress the shock and if the gas is up to full pressure it can be quite difficult laying on the ground and pushing up to get the adjusting cam to engage. I have done it both ways and it's much easier to do with the shock removed. It's also quite easy to damage the adjustments if you twist it just a little too far (I can vouch for this first hand). Had to get a new one for my previous coach.

After days of searching and phone calls, I finally located front shocks for my 96 CC with a gillig chassis. The shocks are made by Koni and are the same part that gillig would install. I am a little hesitant to order them, and rather wait and see what every one else thinks of that brand.

You can ajust as I did three times but Shocks do have a life. After 50,000 mile you should repalce them. Now, what shock should you purchase? My 01' Intrugue rides like a Magna with Road King shocks.

My 99 Allure with 149,000 + miles and the Konies are still working fine. They are on setting 4. The ride height is 1]2 inch higher than factory settings.
