White exhaust smoke

Yahoo Message Number: 13015
I have recently noticed white exhaust smoke when starting from a stop. It just lasts for a few seconds and then does not return until I start up again. Could it be bad fuel? I refilled at a Flying J in Albequerue on I 40 before I noticed the white smoke.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I tried to search for this topic (I'm sure I remember this subject in prior posts) but I could only get topics in Nov 04. I thought I could get ALL messages, including those in prior months/years when searching?

Oh, by the way, Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Dial 1800 diesels and speak to a Cummins tech rep. I had the same problem with my Dodge pick-up and I can't remember his full answer. I do know on a cold morning if you don't wait for the electronic pre heater to work and the wait light to go out, you will get white smoke. TWI 2004 INtrigue w/ ISL and 2003 Dodge pick-up with ISB.

Once you have searched and get the most recent messages on your topic, click on "next" and you will continue to drill down through all the messages on this board in your search. Takes quite a bit of time because only searchs a small range of messages at each click.

Hey Uncle Tom,

Be careful with those white smoke signals. The indians out there will find you easy! LOL!

I just finished a round with Cummins on this same problem. They tried to tell me it was bad fuel. I said no no. Finally after a week they got a guru from Cummins at Columbus In. and he said they have seen that result from problems caused by the fuel pump. Sure enough the coupler to the engine nad worn and was letting the timing change. New module of the pump replaced and aha no problem.
