Engine cover louvers

Yahoo Message Number: 13717
As has been mentioned by several members of this forum, the new CC motorhomes have louvered engine hatches. It would seem that this design has multiple purposes including providing better air flow and cooling as well as elimination/reduction of the dust problem created when driving on dusty roads.

Has anyone with an older coach figured out a way to install good looking louvers in the engine hatch? I like the looks of the new fiberglass louvers on the 2005 models. They don't look like an add- on but are integrated nicely with the engine cover.

Any ideas?

Hi Bob,

The new louvered design can be easly integrated into older coaches either by fiberglass boat or airplane repair or manufacturering shops.
If you know an experimental airplane owner (think Longeze), the builder can do a good job at a reasonable cost for you.

Hi Bob, I was quoted $1,000 to convert my existing door to one with louvers by Desert West Coach. At the time they had the experimental coach from CC with all the latest improvements. One of the reasons for the expense is the mulitple different colored paint layers on my door. My simple fix that was less than 2 hours to complete and a few dollars was to install two temporary support arms at about a 45 degree angles to hold the door mostly open. It has about a 3 inch downward pitch to keep rain out. There are two pictures in the Photo area showing the door open with side and rear views. Osha would never approve of it because you could stick your hand in a couple of feet catch it in the belt drives. When you know you have some 6-10 percent grades on a hot day, it is about a 5 minute job to install the arms until you are done with the need for them. On cold days, it allows the heat to stay in and improve the efficiency of the engine which the louvered doors don't allow. John 2002 Allure
