Tranny Temp

While caught in I-75 traffic in Atlanta (stop and go for about 1/2 hour)the trans temp got to 210 per the silverleaf, 230 per the gauge several times and stayed around 200+. Outside air around 55 and engine never exceeding 195. Once rolling again, back to around 190.
My 02 never ran that hot, anyone have the same temps or do they just run hotter. I know what the manual says, just looking for practical info.

Tom,

Silverleaf shows 200 to 204 Caterpillar temperature loaded, maybe 175 coasting. Allison usually 2 to 4 degrees higher in hot weather. Your Allison book should have limit temps listed. I think limit temp is over 260? I remember seeing 196 Allison temperature in 30 degree weather.

We've had our Intrigue for 12 days and driving down the west coast to AZ I saw tranny temps around 200-205. Some big hills we hit 210. The book says anything under 225 is ok so we'll see. Coasting down hill from Las Vegas to Phoenix in a snow storm temps ran about 175. All the temps are from the Silverleaf.

Bob,

Your tranny temps are running slightly higher than mine. In traveling from Junction City through California and then to Colorado Springs and then returning to Tucson, AZ, my tranny temps were almost always in the range of 198 to 201. Don't believe I ever saw a temp higher than 202, but there were several times when the temp was lower than 198 but for the most part the temp stayed in the 198-201 range.

Bob and Brian,

We have an 05 Intrigue LE also. Our tranny temp range stays in the 200 to 205 range. What if each of the Tranny sensors are calibrated differently. I would not be surprised.

If the temps stay in a constant range, I would bet that this is a good sign. The telling sign would be if the temp starts to spike,

Tom, my experience is exactly like yours. Those terperatures are not a problem in my experience.

While in line to be parked at Redmond FMCA my temp got over 250 deg F. all I had to do was put the coach in neutral and the temp dropped to 180 deg F in 5 minutes. On the road no problem. 2004 Intrigue 11731w/ Cummins 400 TWI

I got concerned when my tranny temp went over 230. However, after I installed the VMS 200EL, I noticed that the Real temperature from the tranny is about 20-30 degrees lower than what the dash gauge shows. The Silver Leaf is much more accurate.
