Towing an RX300

Mary: If you aren't in a hurry, I have a Roadmaster base plate for an RX300, up to 2004 model. I'll sell it for $50.00 plus freight. New it cost $250. However I won't be home until April 5th or so.
I towed a 2000 model and the transmission was damaged by towing flat. At that time, no transmission pump was available. Lexus replaced the transmission under warranty. I sold the car a little later.
Remco now makes a transmission pump for these cars that will insure no damage.

Larry,

Could you explain what the base plat is and its use.
I am also curious as to the tranmission problem you had with your RX300. Did it have 4-wheel all drive or was it 2-wheel (front) drive only (ours is front drive only)? Does front wheel drive only make a difference.

Rich and Meg,

The base plate is the connection to your RX300. It is installed under the front grill/bumber of your car. It is where the tow bar connects to the frame of your car. Have you looked up the specs on RX300 and verified if it can be towed 4 down? The FMCA.com site will detail this info. Your owners manual should also give info.

The pump afore mentioned is used to lubricate the drive train parts that are normally lubricated by a running engine. Our Honda just needs to be turned on afer 6-8 hrs of tow time. Typically the pump is used to make an non towable car towable.
