1999 Intrigue

Hello all. Enjoying this group very much and gaining a lot of information for future use. Hopefully I will soon be the owner of one, 1999 36 foot Intrigue 350HP. Any known problems with this model that any of you would be willing too share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all. David

Must have missed your post. I have a similiar coach as the one you are looking at except mine is 40'. I have the 350 Cummins & other than replacing a cracked exhaust manifold(under warranty) it has performed flawlessly. Plenty of power & mileage is in the 7 to 8 range which is what I expected. I have the "cook's delight" model with a galley slide & have experienced no slide problems. It took me about a year to weed out some minor issues but I now travel as problem free as is possible. I have found CC tech support & the coach's provided owners manuals to be invaluable. I have also found the knowledge & experiences of folks on this board to be very valuable. I don't know of any specific problems with the 36' Intrigues of 1999 other than the electrolysis issue on the entry door. Not all coaches have it & some are worse than other. Sorry you had to wait so long for a reply but be assured it had nothing to do with the fact that you are not a current owner. I'm on my fifth motorhome, but first CC.
I'm like most on the board I like my CC because I own one.

Thanks to all that have replied to my recent post.
....and especially STEVE; I thought the electrolysis problem was with the slides. I am somewhat familiar with the history on the particular Intrigue that I am looking at and like yours there were some problems in the early days like you describe but all have been taken care of to the satisfaction of the previous owner; however, no mention of the electrolysis issue. Really do enjoy the vast knowledge presented on this forum. Maybe soon now I will be able to sign on with my coach #. David

If anyone else is looking for a 1999 Intrigue Country Coach 36' in excellent mechanical condition with some minor cosmetic blemishes please check out the website my wife created at http://home.cinci.rr.com/georgebecker. We are located in Cincinnati.
At this time I am having problems with the awning and the dash vacuum system/air. We recently downsized to a Born Free. Price is VERY negotiable.

My brother and I are looking at a 99 intrigue on ebay. it's a 40 footer with a 350 cummins. It's a 40th anniversary model?
Was wondering if anyone in this group has one. i would appreciate any constructive comments on the rig

I own the model in question and have put approx 50k reasonably carefree miles on it. Have had the following problems:(1) eight (8) thermal windows delaminated (SE-GI). The gasket at the sealing edge of the window migrates toward the center of the pane A friend who operates a major repair facility in the SAN area tells me that this is a vendor problem and has occurred on several makes of coach. My friend's service dept. handled this problem with CCI and they stood up to the problem. However another friend who owns the same year Allure had the same window problem and attempted to handle it with CCI and they stiffed him. (2) I lost power steering completely, but had it covered completely by my extended warrenty---not involving CCI.(3) Finally CCI made an error in calculating axle weights/tire size. After completely replacing all tires, CCI had a 2nd probem with undersizing tires and a 2004/05 recall. They attempted to handle it with me by replacing a single front tire that was significantly larger than the tires they had replace approximately 2 years earlier.
After rather pointed discussions, CCI representatives agreed to replace, and pay for installation of two (2) front tires. Other than that the coach is fine. I've owned 4 prior rv's, and this has been far and away the best of the lot. Having previously operated a Detroit and a Cat--both of which caused me much grief--- I love the Cummings 350. I've routinely serviced it, and it has required no other attention. Further it's operating temperatures never have varied more than about 20 degrees under heavy loads and extreme/long climbs. Having fought overheating constantly in both the Cat and the Detroit, I love that Cummings. rhw

The tire issue is the main thing here, You'll need to install 275r80's on the coach to handle the weight, especially with a slide. If you can get a serial # call the factory and they can give you service info on the coach if you explain, yourself.

Our daughter is considering purchasing a 1999 36' Intrigue, with 1 galley slide. It has 119,000 miles on it. Purchase price would be about $98,000. Can anyone give me some feedback on the quality of the 1999 Intrigues and whether or not the price is reasonable.

This is an interesting challenge to consider.
Some points of concern:

Tires on that coach are probably 275/70 which she can't do much about but the newer version by Toyo or Goodyear have been upgraded in capacity and meet the safety requirements.
It probably has a solid front axel. Some have no problem with that but in 2000 it changed to IFS whic supposidly is smoother.
The engin may well be (if Cummins) is a 330. That should work fine for a 36 ft coach. WE have a 350 option so I can't say for certain.

Try to have her obtain the maintenance history.
If possible have it inspected by an independant qualified person.

The brakes and drums should be inspected for condition. If you are from a state that has vehicle inspection, I would not by it unless it had passed. That passage is no replacement fot the inspection as mentioned above.

Look at the generator hours and be sure it runs and will carry a losd.
See if the generator has a maintenance record. They are often overlooked.

Be sure the frig cools and can make ice.
The house batteries could be late 2nd set or early 3rd set. Check to see the inverter works and will carry the microwave (if it has one) load.
If possible determine if the coach has been corrected to comply with any recall notices issued by Country Coach. Contacting CC should reveal if they have record of this.

The rest of the obvious , general condition, driving test, can she handle it type stuf.

I think the price is fair but she can always assume any of the above risks and not let them effect your decision.

I have a 36' 1999 Allure which except for a few bells and whistles is the same as the Intrigue. The Intrigue does have a 350hp Cummins and mine is a 330hp, but basically the same engine.
The issue of tires: The original 270/70 Toyos were a problem if air pressure was not properly maintained. In 03 I changed mine to 275/80's which are 5% larger in diamater, but fit nicely into the wheel wells. They also have an additional 1000 pound carring capacity over the original tires which is what I wanted.

119K miles is a little rich, but the unit should not be negatively impacted by mileage. However, it was probably lived in full-time have that many miles so the systems have no doubt been well used, i.e., water heater, furnace, refrigerator, generator and so forth.
You can also do better on the price as there is a abundance of these units on the market with lower mileage than the one indicated. If you are not an experienced RV owner you would do well to have it inspected by a qualified RV service tech to know what you are getting into.

I have a 99 Intrigue with 50K+ miles with no major problems. I also have a friend that has a 99 with over 100K miles and no major problems. Older coaches seem to be more reliable than the newer ones with more electronics.

We have a 98 Intrigue w/o slide and 36 feet. We bought it used w/ 40,000 miles three years ago for $95,000 so I think that the asking price on your daughters is high. Did you check NADA.com for used RV values. We have had no major problems withour coach.

The 99 intrigue was a very good coach. But you want to make sure the front tires were changed to the proper size and the leveling valves were relocated. The 99s had some weight distrubution problems because they were early slide coaches. No big deal but the tires were changed and one leveling valve moved to equalize the weight on the front. Also make sure they don't have the low profile tires on this coach. In fact if the tires are 5 years I would plan on changing them and checking the coach weight on a 4 point scale. that is the only way to determine if the front weight is evenly distributed. A truck stop scale will not give you a good reading for this type of problem. You could also check this out with the factory, by calling in the coach number, it was a recall at the time.
