Gen Battery Charge Time

With new AGM 8D's for the house, here is what I experienced while dry camping at the Daytona 500:

Auto Start @ 12.2 volts (50% discharged) 100% Charge

Time to finish bulk charge - about 45 min Time to finish absortion charge - about 1 1/2 hours Time to finish float charge - about 3 hours

The Inverter was left on the entire time and gen set on auto. I never touched it for 6 days and everything worked great. Great alarm clock, quiet time ended each morning at 7:00 am with a gen start. It auto started in the morning and then again late in the evening depending on power usage. If I set the auto stop at absortion, the charge wouldn't last as long as going to float.

I know most of you know all this, but for some who don't dry camp, it gives an idea of how often charging is required.

Tom, Were you in the infield? We are planning next year and hope to have an infield campsite on the lake with full hookups for the two weeks. Me dry camping for two weeks just won't happen. LOL

Didja have a good time? Hope you're a Jeffy fan or you were not a happy camper.

Carol,

We where right near the gate on turn 1, same spot we have each year.
Let me know the details when you find out for the infield with full hookups, that would be great. Jimmy Johnson is our guy, but Jeff's on the same team! If your going to Moultrie, hope to see you then.

That sounds like a great spot, Tom. Do you stay in/on the coach or sit in the stands.

Won't be in Moultrie...on the way to my first Cup/Busch races in Las Vegas. Too bad Kurtie learned how to block so he kept JJ from winning today. ;-)

And that's $500 less for Speedweeks, isn't it? If it is that easy to get the honey wagon...how much does it cost? Is it possible to spend $500 on the honey wagon? Like Jeffy, I am getting SO stoked about going to the races!! Might go to the Rolex 24 hours too since I'll be in Florida.

Thanks, Tom,

Carol

I've gotta get an auto start for our coach since we dry camp a lot. For example, while here in KW, we first dry camped for 25 days before getting a two-week full hookup site. Now we're dry camping again, surely for a shorter period. Then it's back to full hookups, etc.
With our gauge-deficient coach, it's difficult to determine how long to run the genset, so some electronic 12V monitoring system is in our future. For the present, I bought a M9025 Nordskog Street Series LED digital voltmeter that plugs into the dashboard lighter receptacle to help keep an eye on the house batteries. It works well. It flashes if charging voltage gets up to 15V or if voltage drops to 12V. And it has a push button on its face to help determine the highest reading. So far, so good.

Carol,

This year's price for the Lake Lloyd premium site (which includes 2 tickets) during the Rolex 24 Hours (Thursday night through the end of the race on Sunday) was $800; the same spot for the Daytona 500 (Thursday 2/11 through the end of the race on Sunday 2/20) is $2,500 (includes 2 tickets). The honey wagon was $20; a bloodymary at the bar was $6 and very good. Daytona infield improvements for RV speciality parking are excellent.

Enjoy.
