Low Turbo Boost Pressure

Hello

At full throttle, I am only getting a reading of 22 PSI max from my newly installed Silverleaf VMSpc. Cummins says I should be getting 30- 33. I have a 2003 Cummins 370 ISL with about 18,000 miles on it. When I bought it, it had ~14000 miles on it. MPG isn't that good (5.5-7.5) but have gotten 9 once or twice. I have only had the coach since Oct and never had a diesel before, so I'm not sure if the power feels too low or not because I have nothing to compare it to. I always thought it was slow to excelerate but wrote it off as just a diesel characterstic. Seems to climb Smoky mountain hills OK as long as I get a running start. Wife says she saw a little black smoke coming from exhaust when I accelerated, like from a dead stop. I'm fairly new to diesels and was wondering if any of you diesel experts out there might have some suggestions on where to start looking. I'm guessing I should at least start out looking for any turbo plumbing leaks. I'm also wondering if the waste gate could be out of adjustment. Present coach weight is about 31K towing a 3300 lb toad (max allowed GVWR = ~33,000 lbs). Thanks for any words of wisdom here.

Check the air filter, and the in take to see if any thing is in it like a rag. It does make a big diff. in your PSI. Next if you slow down going up the mtn. say like 1500 rpm put in in a lower gear. i run up the big ones at 2000 rpm. and what ever gear it is in is just fine. going down the mtn. i used the same gear as i did going up the mtn. IT IS A DISEL, IT IS NOT A GAS ENG. YOU WILL NOT HURT IT. AND WHEN YOU PUT YOUR FOOT TO THE FLOOR AND THE RPM ARE DOWN SO IS THE PSI. HOPE THIS WAS SOME HELP??? CAPT. DAN 2000 ALLURE #30498 330 HP. Your Cummins is still under warranty, so go knock on their door. But, then I have read and heard a few complaints about Silverleaf from owners and installers other than CC> I will say my 400 will smoke if I let the rpms get to low and the turbo hasn't spooled up. Milage is a tough question to answer, a friend of mine gets over 10 mpg with a 36' 370, but she never drives over 60. If I drive 68 and subtract the hydro-hot(.45 gal/hr) and the generator (.7 gal/hr) I average 7.5/ at 60,8.2 and 9.+ at 55. Thats on basically level terain, in the mountains all bets are off. Be ware, if Cummins doesn't find anything wrong, and you haven't talked to Country Coach, you are going to be stuck with the bill. I had a similar situation with a coolant leak, and when Country Coach later found the leak, I gave them a copy of the bill I had paid and Mr. Wasenburger and Doug Rutherford got together and CC paid my Cummins bill . THAT IS OK. I THINK IF YOU LOOK IT UP IN THE ENG. BOOK IT WILL TELL YOU AT WHAT RPM YOU ARE TO GET THE PSI YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. GOOD LUCK DRIVE IT HAVE FUN AND I DO NOT GET NO 9 MPG AT ANY TIME.I GET
