No More Digital Cinema Option in 2006?

Yahoo Message Number: 15702
Hello Group, have you seen the '06 model "previews" on the CC website? In looking at the '06 Affinity spec's, it seems the digital cinema option (electric retracting "movie" screen and projector) is no longer offered; the featured television being a front mounted 37" LCD. From the exterior photo it looks like it might be permanently mounted rather than swing down. I didn't see digital cinema in the Intrigue '06 spec's either.

In my current coach I have a ceiling mounted 84" electrically retracting screen and a high definition DLP projector and I'm so very pleased with this home theater setup-- I'm surprised and curious why CC would drop this option. Maybe it wasn't selling. In my application, and despite day-night shades, I use the projector only at night and use an LCD during the day --but I am an unabashed gadget nut-- I guess not everyone is. --wheeler

I wholeheartedly agree with you -- I love my projection system! I, too, only use it at night, but it is great (and a really neat thingy to show folks as they walk through!). Maybe the new coach prices are getting so high that CC has to start cutting a few thousand here and there to be in the competitive ballpark?????
Maybe the systems ended up being more trouble than they were worth -- and I just don't know that yet??????? Hope it doesn't end up that way.

I'm not sure if the quality of the projection system intalled in my Inspire is the same as or as good as that used in the Magna, but I've had a lot of trouble with my projector - made by NEC. On a hot day, with the sun beating down on the roof, the first projector installed would quit because of the heat even though they added a second fan to the cover. The second one just quit recently, won't start. Have to figure out how it is installed so I can take it down to mail it to CC so they can take it to their repair guy. So, if others are having similar problems in all of the models, it makes sense that they stop offering the option. I'm trying to figure out a way to install it a bit lower from the ceiling so either more insulation can be added or so that the air moving across the top will cause it to stay cool enough. Ideas anyone?

That said, I love the projection system. The grandgirls love to watch their movies on it and so do I!

Todd,

It would be fun to know what options you ordered that CC has never done before in a Country Coach model.

Thanks,

Barry

The tile I chose was something they havent done. I went with a small tile that resembles bricks that at first Country Coach said they could not do and when I pointed out that they say you can push the limits on an Affinity much like a Prevost they finally did it. Trust me I pushed the limits on everything in the Coach. The only difference in it and a Prevost Conversion is the 4 slides and the chassis. From sinks to shower fixtures they said they have never done or had those type of fixtures. There are also 3 TVs in the front in addition to the Projection Screen. Outside in addition to the exterior entertainment center, I have a upright fridge and cooktop which they said they havent done because they had to build something to place it in. That was a week long process to get the specs for that. It was their first time building something to house that they said. One of the TVs in the front is between the dinette and sofa windows much like they did it in the past when someone did it but this time they are going to build the piece out of wood and make it look like a column instead of just on the wall. I did not like the look of the doors in the bedroom as the mirrors to me are just too much so I have had them two resemble to Frech Doors with the use of more wood. I also had the sofas and Booth specially made by Villa Furniture with the sofa featuring built in recliners. The Booth is a mixture of leather and fabric and unlike the standard with the wood drawers underneath.

The outside paint scheme is something that took awhile and I cant tell you how talented Linda Aldridge is at Country Coach.
She is good! Linda told me that usually Country Coach owners know what they want and all want something different. All Affinity paint jobs are one of a kind and with the option of the Bus Scheme you can push the limits farther which I did. She said this was a complicated scheme with the prizm paints being used and that it would require more time laying it out and it would take more time in the paint booth. Long story short, while I have had nothing but a pleasant experience with Country Coach, I must admit that on the specs for the Affinity when they say you can push the limits, I dont think they are prepared if everyone pushed the limits. For example they are having my tile put in after it is built because it would take too long to lay the smaller tile and they said it is already going take longer on the production line than what they normally allow to build my coach.

When I ordered my new Affinity back at the end of December I was told it would be a 2006 model when it is completed at the end of April next month. I ordered the Affinity with EVERY option they had including some they have never done in a Country Coach model. One thing I wanted without a doubt was the Projection System. Even though it is not listed as an option they said it would be no problem to do it. When we signed the papers we agreed to the 2005 price option which I believe if my memory serves me right was around $7,800. When the final price came back from Country Coach the price tag was a whopping $13,000! I quickly pointed out that the price we agreed to was much less and they agreed that a deal was a deal and adjusted it to the $7K price. Reps at Country Coach told me the reason it is not offered is that of ALL the Affinitys and Magnas they have done they can basically count on their hands how many have the Projection TV. I was told last year it was less than 10! It is an expensive option and in order to get a good deal they probably have to stock up on some units and when they dont sell they get stuck. They will put it in a unit but it will COST you, but the bottom line is it is an expensive option that they just dont sell alot of. For those of us that have the Projection Screen it is a rare feature that most fellow Country Coach owner do not have. I guess that is what made me want it that much more too-LOL. I cant wait for our Affinity to be finished. Happy Travels to everyone!

Ron, it is kind of in the middle...about 2 1/2 feet from one vent in front and about the same from the one behind it. The ducts themselves...I think they go around it because there doesn't seem to be enough room for them to be above it. (Could be wrong as I'm not a builder of things.) I'm thinking that CC needs to design a way for it to hang down about 3 or 4 inches from the ceiling so that air can circulate around the whole thing. The first one quit the first time when it was about 90F outside and while I had the AC on, the cooler air apparently didn't circulate around the projector. It got so that it would quit even if I took the cover off of it, so CC replaced it the last time I was at Camp CC. This one worked a couple of weeks ago, but when I tried to turn it on to watch the races while at Las Vegas, it wouldn't even turn on. Used a separate electric cord to see if it was the connection and that didn't work either, hence the determination that the projector itself is kaputz again.

Hmmmmm....kind of a long answer to a simple question, eh?
