No comparison, we have had both and would never have another hurricane. The Hydro Hot always works, the Hurricane hardly ever worked, at least you could not count on it all the time. The difference is in the way they work their nozzle. The Hydro Hot uses a tried and proven burner from Wabasco. The hurricane uses a burner that they invented. They claim that the Hydro Hot will not meet the emissions code in a few years but who cares, at least it works. Everyone went to Hurricane because Aqua Hot did not have a small unit when the Hurricane came out. Now that the Hydro Hot is available, I don't think anyone is using the Hurricane anymore. The Hurricane works fine if you exercise it once a week, keep plenty of new filters around and get the nozzle replaced every 6 months. but diesel is a very unreliable fuel in very cold weather and the way the Hurricane is made it magnifies this problem. We managed to keep our Hurricane working once we decided to run it every 2 weeks even in the summer and have it serviced every chance we got at rallies etc. If you have a Hurricane you want to take advantage of the free service at the FMCA rallies.

I think Hurricane is getting a bad rap because of past problems. I was one of the owners who always prefaced Hurricane with @#?%, but am now having good experience with my unit. I find their service techs to be very cooperative and helpful even though they have lost the CC account.

My hurricane has always worked pretty well as well, during the first year had some trouble with it but since that time it works most of the time with a flame out now and then but upon reset then it works great.

With a Hurricane you cannot get enough hot water using electricity, but plenty on diesel. I've been told the same is true with HH.

I have recieved great support from Hurricane. When I first got my coach, I wasn't familiar with how to operate it and the Hurricane techs were very informative and helpfull. Even though my warranty was expired, they sent me an upgraded circuit board with all the latest software and hardware upgrades, free! My Hurricane works as advertised and I would ask for another one if I bought a new coach.

We have a Hurricane in our 2003 Intrigue #11581 built in August 2002. We have used the system extensively in weather down to 0 degrees and have had NO problems. Country Coach did upgrade the system last year with the latest electronics board, but that has had no effect on the system since we had no problems with it since purchasing the coach.

The thing we like the most is that we still have a separate Suburban water heater that works great on electric and propane. We get all the hot water we could ever need on either electric or propane from a very reliable system and never have to turn on the diesel Hurricane heater for hot water.

Based on all the problems people are complaining about different systems, I think this system is the best of all since it provides a high volume of hot water and 4 levels of redundancy for hot water (electric, propane, diesel when the Hurricane is running and engine recycled heat).

Just my opinion, but I see nothing wrong with Hurricane as long as you maintain it properly and exercise it monthly.
