Heater core

John: Just a couple of other thoughts on the heater core item: The box is actually in two pieces, on top is the piece on which the vent tubes attach. The lower piece holds the heater core and A/C unit and blower assembly.
To drop the box out the bottom, you have remove the screws holding the upper section to the lower section. You have to remove the dash access panel by the steps and remove the little kick panel by the throttle pedal to get to all of the screws and tubes that direct the heat/a/c/defrost/vent.
I wasn't entirely thrilled with the wire-ties holding some tubing and absent on others, so I started from the center and put hose clamps them.
When you reinstall the fan assembly be sure to test it before closing things up. It has very little clearance and has a tendency to rub if not properly reinstalled.
My current problem is that I may have blotched the job and it still leaks. I think I may have one of the (several) sheet metal screws protruding into the core (grrrrrrrrr!) or the radiator shop screwed up the repair, I don't know at this point. I'm trying to work up enough energy and waiting for warmer weather to tackle the job again. We aren't planning to travel until later in the year so I'm trying to forget it and maybe it will fix itself? Sure!

I had a heater core leak on our coach and had it replaced about 2 months ago right after we bought the coach and it has been fine since although don't seem to get a lot of heat out of it. I wouldn't advise trying to have a core repaired though but rather replacing with new. Repaired heater cores in general do not seem to have a very high success rate.
