Inverter "on" all the time?

We only use our inverter when we are dry-camping, stopped for a lunch break, etc. We recently met a guy who mentioned that he keeps his inverter on all the time. I can see the advantage to this, like never having to reset your clock... but is this normal? Is is recommended to run everything through the inverter all the time, even when plugged in?

Advise and opinions, please.

We run ours ON for the most part. It makes a great UPS for the TV/computers/Internet while on shore power.

The laptop we use for mapping/GPS has a poor battery so the AC adapter is plugged in when underway.

I switch the inverter off when leaving the coach for the day. No need to run the house battery down if we should happen to have a power failure while gone.

The inverter is not running (even when ON) if other sources of AC are available, IE shore power or the generator. No harm leaving it ON but you should manage it.

The best use of the inverter while underway is the Crock Pot. They draw very little current (190 watts). My wife places a towel and the crock pot in the sink. Dinner is just about done when we stop for the day. Caution! The wonderful smells from kitchen while driving down the road can be most distracting.

I hd a 94 Exec that have the inverter on for 5 years without a problem. We never turned it off no matter where we were...parked or on the road. Never thought anything about it. Our inverter in the Allure has been on since October when we purchased it and no problem either.

I keep my inverter on for the most part. Especially when going down he road. Crock pot is on in the sink, laptop is powered up, wife's hobby light is on for her to do her cross stitchiing. Like Jim, it makes a great UPS for power loss. The power switch and surge guard system automatically switches everything in a priority pecking order.
