leveling suspension problems

Don't know if there is any help here but I'll relate our experience with our 98 Allure 36'. We bought it in Jan. of this year and started having problems right away with the rod at the left rear leveling valve coming disconnected or swinging around to the wrong direction. Put it back on a bunch of times but it kept coming apart. Finally got it into a shop in Tucson, Southwest Truck Service and they diagnosed it as a bad leveling valve which they replaced. It was ok for several hundred miles then started acting up again. Travel light would not stay on and the coach was not level going down the road. Took it back and they readjusted the rod and it seems to have stayed ok since about 2000 miles. The lever on the left rear had again went in the wrong direction. They also checked ride height and ascertained that it was correct. I don't know if CC's system is any good or what but I still am not confident that it will remain trouble free. Seems like maybe everything is ok until I dump all the air when I'm parking and leveling the coach then this is when the lever on that rear left side goes in the wrong direction. Don't know why it is always the left side though and never the right. There is an emergency procedure for making the coach road worthy by removing a fuse in the fuse box located in the compartment in front of the co pilot seat. You might be aware of this procedure too.

I assume your leveling is made by HWH, if so call them at 1-800-321-3494 Stacy Meinert is the service manager, they are the greatest people you will ever deal with. If you can and need to take it to the factory in Moscow, Iowa, worth the trip, they can fix it all.

Hi Ron -

Looking at out coach #'s I guess our coaches passed each other while being built... I'm curious, I never dump the air when leveling, I simply hit the auto button. Any particular reason for doing this?

Thanks,
Dave

Simply pressing the "auto" button may result in a level coach with its front end high off the ground, requiring an auxiliary step to ensure safety.
Dumping air first can prevent this.

Ron Schonscheck,

Your problem is caused by the rod that connects to the left valve.
The rod is probably adjusted too short. I forget the proper measurement, but I'll go under my coach & get it if needed. I believe it is 5 3/4", but my memory is not perfect. Try measuring the length of your right rod center to center. I'll bet your left valve rod is shorter than the right. Just adjust it to the right length & your problem will be solved and you can dump without any problem. The rod I'm referring to is the rod that connects to the valve & intersects the vertical rod. Once I got the length & ride height adjusted properly I have enjoyed almost 50,000 troublefree miles.

Let me know if more help needed..............
