Caterpillar C9 problems to be fixed after back order

Yahoo Message Number: 17003
Caterpillar told me a new high pressure pump and a new computer program are needed for my C9 engine per a Caterpillar service letter. The pump is back ordered without an expected date.
The pump & program change should cure delayed power & failure to make power per Cat. Thompson Machinery service manager in Memphis TN said pump will make a big difference.

Twice so far, the Cat has failed to go over 900 R/M. One while just off the interstate & once while cool. Both times it did finally go after 30+ seconds & many throttle pushes. Both times felt very bad!.

The other problem is variable delay before power. Push pedal, then wait. Wait at about 1100 R/M. Wait till turbocharger boost gets to 11 PSI, then it makes power. Wait varies from 3 to 22 seconds.
Silverleaf shows 398 horse power from 2100 to 2300, so power is not a problem, the delay or failure to make power is problem.

Hope this info helps some one.

A whole engineering and service team from CAT has been working on my C-9 with low (or no) power issues for the last 2+ weeks. According to CAT, mine has the new pressure pump and they have tried a number of engine flashes (no success so far).

Thank you to the combined efforts of Country Coach and CAT engineers working with the Colorado CAT service center (three weeks), the C-9 low power, low boost, low torque problems are resolved.

CAT replaced all turbo components and related systems and installed new flashes on the ECU including the one released 6/22.

Results:

Boost went from 26 to 31

Torque went from 800 to 1,100
Power went from 320 HP to 400 HP

The coach drives completly different. I can now pass a double tandem loaded tanker. Could not before.

CAT performed a full load dyno and all figures were corroborated.
Nice to know the CC and CAT support are there when you need it.
