Black tank flush

Yahoo Message Number: 16999
I'm wondering if anyone out there has any experience with adding a black tank flushing system to their rig? We had one from the factory on our Holiday Rambler Vacationer and it worked really well. Of course it was standard equipment. Any thoughts or instructions would be appreciated.

I put one in my 2000 Allure. I positioned it by feeling up behind the white fiberglass housing and then loosened the housing a bit to provide more work space. I then used a hole saw to cut a hole large enough to accommodate a white sewer pipe nipple larger than the back flush connection; 4" I believe. I installed the back flush and reinstalled the the white fiberglass housing. Then I installed the white sewer nipple and put in a white plastic sewer pipe plug as a cover, like the sewer hose storage pipe. Works fine.

We have one for the black tank already on our 2001 Intrigue, but didn't have one for the gray, so had Evergreen RV in TX install that.
It ended up being a bigger job than we thought, because of the location of the tanks (different in different coaches), but they did an awesome job. We're pleased to have it...
Definitely get the black tank done, but consider having the gray done at the same time.

I'm a little confused. Are you discussing adding an additional flush line to the top of the black tank? On my 99, the anti-siphon valve ruptured and blew the water out everywhere. It was intended to go into the top of the tank for washing out the tank.
I had to remove the large fiberglass panel that covers the entire system to access the valve. It's an all-day job. I bi-passed the anti-siphon valve with the assumption that it would be impossible to get pressurized fresh water to back flow. It now has more pressure into the tank, but still is pretty whimpy.

Thanks.

All, we have a 03 Intrigue Ovation. Recently dumped the black tank, but the gauge is showing the tank to be full. Any suggestions or comments.
Thanks,
Reese

Reese,

Sometimes toilet paper hang up on the sensors and give a false reading. Once you start driving it with some water in the tank, this will usually wash off. Some dump a bag of ice in the black tank just before they go on the road, and I'm told that takes care of it also. We've never have had to do that. But it's not uncommon to see what you are seeing. Give it a try!

If you would put some lemon juice down your black tank with it full and drive a little it will clean all the sensers

Reese,

I have a 2004 Intrigue and was experiencing the same problem. After running water into the wastewater no-flush connection for 10 minutes or so without any apparent improvement, I had put it on my punch list for CC to look at for possibly a faulty guage.
However, yesterday, I let the no-flush run for about an hour and the problem appears to be solved. I guess the sensors just got gooped up.

Although a pain and maybe an overkill, in talking to a CC shop foreman, he had recommended running the water into the no-flush every time you dump to avoid any future problems.

Hope this helps...

Two weeks ago we dumped the black tank before we left the campground and the tank showed empty. We drove 250 miles, used the toilet twice, and we we got to our stop for the night, the tank showed full. After about 3 more flushes it went back to empty. I suspect the location of the sensors attracts more toilet paper giving the false readings.
Sometimes we have the empty light and the full light with the 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 off. I've written it off to one of those quirks that is not worth worrying about.

Reese,

We had the same problem on our 99 Intrigue. A fellow RVer told us to empty and flush the tank..Then we filled it up to 3/4 full with water and added a cup of Blue Dawn dish soap and drove to our next campground and dumped. It cleaned up the problem. You might try this.

-Thanks to all that responded to my black tank sensor question. I back flushed the tank and then I flushed the commode about 10 times and that seemed to correct the reading on the guage. Thanks, Reese - In Country-Coach-

Greetings from new Country Coach owners. We too had a holding tank problem. Odor from both tanks. Tried many chemicals that didn't work.
Tried the Dawn last trip and so far seems to have worked! Also will try the 360 vents. We appreciate the tips from all you Country Coach owners who have "been there... done that"

Hi Group-

I should be able to understand this uncomplicated system BUT- July of 02 picked-up the CC- 2 weeks had plugged toilet- CC plumbed into the shelf area of Black Tank- CC fixed it-

Here's what's happening NOW- (with Black Tank not full)
1- Toilet won't flush(not always) with out toilet plunger-
2- Almost always BURBS up bubble when flushing-
3- I've been faithful about using the Black Flush after dumping-

Here's what I've done-
1-Poured 10 gallons of water down Black vent-Top of CC

(CC tells me which vent is black)
Forward outside is Black Tank
Center and inboard are Gray Tank
Rear is the Washer/Gray tank

2- Bought a hose attachment for clean out through the toilet-
3- Poured (5)- 3 1/2 gal. of water down toliet-
4- Took a hose and put it in the black vent TOP of CC for 5 minutes-

I believe the BURPING is telling me something- Any help would be WONDERFUL

Hi Stan, My Intrigue was built just prior to yours and I also have had the problem you talk about. The solid material builds up on the shelf right below the pipe from the toilet. On mine I used some chemicals that are used with septic tanks to liquefy the solids. I poured this chemical into the toilet and let it set for a day. I then used the tank flush system to wash the solid (hopefully liquefied now) off the shelf. I did that about a year and a half ago and so far I have not had a repeat of the problem. When I empty the blank tank I flush the system for about 5 minutes to make sure I get that shelf cleaned off. In my humble opinion this is a very poor design, unfortunately because of the location of the Hurricane Heater it's impossible to reconfigure. Hope this helps you. If it didn't work for me I was about to insert a high pressure wand down the toilet and flush it out that way.
