campground with low voltage

Report on Lake Glory Campground owned by Knobels Grove, Elysburg, PA. Our church group had arranged for a camping weekend this past weekend (June 24-26). Some camped in tents, some in trailers, some in RV's like us. Our unit is a 40' 1998 Country Coach Prevost

Conversion. All electric. The only spaces available for RV's were

30 amp. NO PROBLEM. I can set my 2-4000 watt inverters to 30 amps and live comfortably with load-sharing planning. Only when I plugged in Friday afternoon, the electrical system would not shift from inverter to shore-power. Why, because the campground was only supplying 108 volts. Next I started my generator and checked my meter to see if it's still accurate and it was. With 2 roof airs running and charging 2 battery banks I was getting 115-118 volts.
Meter OK. I checked several campsites and then went to the office to report it. First thing from the 3 gals there was, "No one's

complained!" When I asked to check the voltage at the office, I was

told "NO!" So I did it anyway and they were at 108 volts.
They said

they would call the Maintenance from Knobels and report it. Later on I spoke with the "campground manager" and he stated that "we

should not even have the `big rv's' in that area of the campground

since it is only 30 amp service." Only those were the spaces they

assigned when originally requested. I even had called months ago asking about a 40' "bus" and which sites were best. They told me 2

sites and one of those is where I was. Also he stated they have had low-voltage in the 30 amp loop. I asked why they didn't have a sign

at the office notifying campers of it. No answer! Later on an actual maintenance person from the amusement park was waiting in his truck for the local power company to show up. This man was knowledgeable and you could carry on an intelligent conversation about the problem with him. It appeared that the power company was aware of a problem for some time but now that campers were complaining they were coming that night yet to check it out. The power company did arrive later. Some time later the same maintenance person came to my campsite and informed me that the power company was calling out a crew to fix the problem. Well, the next day it was up to 109 volts. So for 2 days, I ran my generator for power. The campground did not want to hear anything about a partial refund for non-electric site. Nice campground, there are 50 amp sites and they do have shuttle service to the Knobels Amusement Park some 5 miles away but the shuttle times are inconvenient.
Warning: Knobels Camp Glory has low voltage and the campground could care less!
