generator and auto start

Thank you to everyone who replied with their opinion about ladders.
The generator start is in the cabinet over the entry door. If the batteries get low the generator automatically starts. Twice now the generator has come on while I'm driving. My guess is that the frig left on auto is using the invertor in the absence of a/c instead of switching to L.P. I need to read up if that is how it's supposed to work. I've switched the frig to L.P. If this is so, that solves why the generator is starting. However the bigger issue to me is there is no way to tell the generator has started. My old r.v. had the generator start with the dash switches and you could see it light up. It also had the generator hours next to it so you could also see the hours/minutes changing. This generator has it's hours gauge on the generator so you'd have to go outside and open the front. So back to the generator running, with the engine going and the road noise I have no idea that the generator has started and/or how long it's been running.

Hi Patti. My 05 Allure, 31176 does not allow the refrig to run off the inverter. It runs off shore power, generator power, or LP. Course if you have an all electric coach, I don't know how they work...I guess they could run off the inverter. But, if the charging system is working right the batteries should not go "down" while you are driving, thus the generator would never need to start using that option, would it?????....

Just an an off the wall, though....there are two ways to auto start the generator...one is with the xantrex system what starts it when the batteries get low...as you have mentioned...the other is with the Silverleaf system. If you have a Silverleaf it might be worth checking to see if that option is turned on and if so, then it could be the one starting the generator while driving, in that it doesn't care if you are driving or not. It's hooked into the "comfort" air conditioning, and also into the "exercise" every month option????......Just a thought for consideration....

If not, then it would be worth looking at the charging system, I believe...

Best Regards

Pati,

Just a suggestion, set your Xantrex to Manual-Start/Manual-Stop until you sort out your power drain.

you may care to check to see if you have a exerciser if so the generator will come on at predetermined times Bill Vincent 2002 Magna 6048
