New Eng. Coast and color trip- need suggestions and experience

I am planning a trip to Boston and surrounding area, and then up the coast to Bar Harbor, ME (ACADIA NP area) and then over to New Hampshire and Vermont before heading south to DC. I wonder if any of you Yankees out there can give me some advice on must sees, good campgrounds, best roads and eats especially in ME, NH and VT! I don't need too many ideas for the Boston area, as there is plenty to keep me busy there, unless you want to give me some don'ts... that is also helpful. I am heading to Boston after Labor Day. Is Bar Harbor area last week of Sept. too late o be there?

I am departing for Maine on Sunday with stays in Foxboro, MA(Normandy Farms Campground), Booth Bay, ME(Shore Hills Campground), Camden/Rockport(Megunticook Campground) and Bar Harbor (Desert Narrows). If you'll give me your direct e-mail I'll be glad to report back when I return on the the 26th. Based on my experience so far I'd say make reservations ASAP. I made mine back in late March. If you wait til October you can take in the World Series in Boston. Good Luck.

I am the Yankee that you refer to. Both my wife and I spent all but the last 4 years (full timers now) in MA and NH. A couple of things to keep in mind. New England is not the most Big Rig friendly area of the country I am sorry to have to admit. The campgrounds are often old, small and more tent camping in nature than Rving. They also can be quite expensive and they may think that they can handle big rigs but often are surprised when you arrive. Costal Maine (Bar Harbor area) will be much easier as will the Boston area although there are not a lot of RV Parks close to Boston. Boston/Plymouth KOA in Middleboro MA or Normandy Farms (can't remember the town) are the first that come to mind.
The thing to keep in mind is that you are planning to be in the northern parts very close to the start of the foliage season. I recommend that you have all of your planned stop-overs reserved way ahead. Although the Oct 12th holiday is thought of as the foliage weekend, actually the last week in Sept is often the ideal time for the White Mountains of NH. It is a great time to be at Arcadia but there will most likely be crowds.
I need to know a little more about your planned route and maybe I can help you with road info and attractions etc. If you're interested drop me a direct email dseager@.... I did want to mention a brand new RV Park on Route 3A in Bridgewater NH. Bridgewater is located along the east shore of Newfound Lake just north of Bristol NH. It is called Newfound RV Park and was built for big rigs (50a full hookup etc). It is about 8 miles west of 93 and good roads. The owner has not listed with Trailer Life or Woodalls but I did see it in the campground section of the latest FMCA mag. Usual Northeast prices but in an great location for leaf peeping or many other attractions.

Sept.8-17 Boston Middelborough KOA Sept.18-19 Beach Rose Park, Salisbury, ME Sept.20-21 Shore Hills , Boothbay, ME Sept. 22-25 Bar Harbor KOA

Sept. 27-Oct.3 Danforth Bay Camping Resort, Freedom, NH Oct.4-10 Pine Valley RV Resort, Quechee, VT Some of these reservations are made, some are not. I am working on them as we speak.

After that I am heading to Sturbridge through the Pioneer Valley and Sturbridge, MA, Mystic and Lyme, CT, NYC and then to Philly and DC.
Whew!!!

I hope I beat the snow! You can email me or reply on this post since there might be others out there who will want to save this info as well for future reference.
