More air bag stuff ...

Yahoo Message Number: 17947
Speaking of air bags, how far can I lift the rear end up for clearance to change filters ??

I read somewhere, probably here, that if you are not careful, you can pull the rear shocks apart, or at least over extend them.
I would like to raise the rear end, then block with 6x6's. Don't need much ... if I don't breath (heh, heh).
I am still thinking of putting a pit in the floor, that would be way easy, but that will never get done most likely.

Thanks ...

J & T, I don't know about the shocks pulling apart, but I have a Buddy who raised it enough that the linkage on one of the air ride valves flipped over causing all kinds of problems. He has '97 Intrigue 40 footer.

Yikes .... time for another plan I guess.

Any idea how much he raised it ... probably not much.
I am thinking of sawing a rect hole in the floor of our new pole barn and making up a metal pan and placing it in the hole. A pre fab pit sort of. Some flanges around the outside would seal it, and sand on the bottom packed hard at the correct depth might work to support the bottom. I could turn the MH around and work on front also.
I was poking around the shop at Lazy Days awhile back, and they have a cool set up. Each corner of the MH gets lifted by a fork lift like device (picks up the tires). Each unit is synced together so they all lift the same. Not sure if my wife will go that far ... actually I am sure ... NOT !!!.

Thanks for the info ...

I can supply those post lifts that you mention. They are fantastic but probably overkill for the doityourselfer. In the neighborhood of $20K.

Funny ... I almost typed in $20,000 as a guess.
I did find the web page and they are cool ... not sure if the same as you can supply.

I guess I could sell the combine.

John,

You should be able to use the "raise" function to it's full height, about 4 inces. It won't hurt anything, I use it all the time and the system won't allow it to over extend. This is all assuming your ride height is correct. The problem is the tag axle. If you use the raise function to it's full height while moving and the tag tires fall in a hole, it will pull the shocks apart.

When I change oil and filters, I just raise up the rear to it's maximum and place jack stands as a safety precaution. The Foretravel I had was real easy, just pump it up and place steel supports (pre-cut to the correct length) between the frame rail in case of an air bag blow out.

Hope this helps...

John,

As to pulling the shocks apart..............Sounds like a wives tale to me. I raise mine regularly without any problems.

I figure if I dump the air, that would remove most of the down force, I would have to lift a little higher.

I am going to call RideWell and CC both, when I remember.

Thanks ...
