Engine Brake

I recently picked up an 01 40' CC Magna with 2 slides and a tag. The power is a 385HP C10, which frankly seems a bit underpowered for the weight of this coach, but I can deal with that. I am suprised though, by the performance of the compression brake (3 stage Jake). I guess I assumed that it would have much more stopping power in stage 3 than it does. On a 6% grade with the trans in 3rd and the brake active the coach will overrev the engine if I were to let it. Should I gear down to 2nd to hold the coach at speed without using the air brakes? Am I missing something or is this the behavior I should expect? I have confirmed that stage three is correctly activating the brake on all six cylinders.

I struggled with the brake on my C13 until CC found it was wired wrong. We can handle a 6% grade in 4th gear with the brake in stage 2 (occasionaly stage 3) at 55mph at 2000RPM with no service brakes.
Prior to the wiring fix we only had stage 1 and we couldn't keep the rpm's down on any grade.

The engine brake on our 2005 Allure has worked intermittently on our last trip. We have the 400HP Cat9 in the Allure. Since we live in Colorado the engine brake is very important for save driving. The brake did not work consistently on one of our trips last year, but for the past 8-9 months it was working properly until our latest trip. It is strange how it works for an hour or so and doesn't work for the rest of the day and then it works again the next morning---maybe?
Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem? Is there a service center in the Grand Junction, Co. that could fix the problem (Denver is a second choice). Would a large truck service center like Freightline or Cat do service work on an RV engine brake?

There is a CAT/Wagner servive center out that way and also a CAT/Waner center in Denver. I also used another shop on the east side that put our radiator in and was very happy with them but name is out in the coach, you welcome to call in the morning if you need thier name.

Did you try adding a couple drops of thin oil to the air cylinder that opens the Pac Brake.
Did mine to day just a 10 minute job to disconect the hose and add oil, other wise the cylinder gets way to dry and possibly rusty.
