12 Volt Power + Satellite Receiver

Yahoo Message Number: 18261
Two basic questions:

Does anyone know which power wire would be best for a satellite receiver in the front overhead compartment? We installed a KVH A5 some time ago and it isn't happy with the power being supplied to it. Our coach was supposedly "pre-wired" for satellite, but CC techs say there is no dedicated wire for the 12 volt power. We obviously need to change wire, but which one to choose?
And - when the Trace inverter panel indicates the domestic batteries are down to say 60%, are we still getting 12 volts supplied? Does the voltage drop as the batteries go down, or does the readout go to zero before the voltage actually drops?

Your wire selection for power should be based on the load connected to it. I am not sure what the amperage draw is for your sat. WHen you have other shared loads on the same line then voltage will likely drop if the combined load is exceeded.

One thing to consider is that every coach is wired with 3 pairs of 12 gauge wires to add accessories. One pair is located in the dash area, another pair is usually in the Galley area and the third is in the rear or bedroom area of the coach. The wires usually run to the domestic fuse box in one of the rear compartments. They are bundled together and the ends of each wire is butt capped. I would recommend that one of these pairs be used if you find you do not already have a dedicated power lead. As someone already recommended, make sure the batteries are in good shape.
